The University of South Alabama, a NCAA Division I institution, charter member of the Sun Belt Conference and located on the Gulf Coast in Mobile, Alabama, is seeking applicants for a Director of Football Equipment Operations.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Head Football Coach, this position will be responsible for the organization and administration of all aspects of the Football Equipment operations. The Director of Football Equipment Operations serves as a key member of the football operations staff and works collaboratively with coaches, student-athletes, athletics administration, vendors, and support personnel to ensure the program's equipment needs are met efficiently and professionally.
Essential Job Functions:
Direct and oversee all daily equipment operations for the University of South Alabama Football program.
Develop, administer, and monitor the football equipment budget, including financial planning, forecasting, expenditure tracking, and budget control.
Manage the procurement process for football apparel, footwear, uniforms, equipment, and related supplies in accordance with institutional, State, Sun Belt Conference, and NCAA guidelines. Establish and maintain productive relationships with equipment manufacturers, apparel providers, vendors, and service contractors. Maintain comprehensive inventory control systems for all football equipment and apparel, including ordering, receiving, issuance, tracking, maintenance, repair, reconditioning, and replacement schedule.
Coordinate laundry services and apparel management as necessary to support football operations and student-athlete needs.
Coordinate and oversee the embellishment and customization of team apparel, uniforms, and equipment in accordance to the South Alabama branding guidelines.
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate equipment interns, graduate assistants, student managers, and part-time employees.
Develop staff schedules and assign responsibilities to ensure efficient execution of departmental operations.
Coordinate equipment needs and logistics for football practices, training sessions, competitions, and special events.
Responsible for the setup, execution, and management of equipment functions for all practices and competitions.
Responsible for the management and maintenance of all football communication systems, including headsets, Coach-to-Player systems, and related equipment.
Manage all equipment-related logistics for all travel operations, including but not limited to; planning, loading, transportation for all football contests.
Coordinate with the athletic departments Facility & Event Operations liaison regarding facility maintenance, repairs, needs, and facility improvement projects.
Ensure compliance with all institutional, Sun Belt Conference, NCAA, NOCSAE, and manufacturer standards regarding equipment safety and usage.
Assist with the on-campus recruitment of prospective student-athletes, including coordinating equipment and apparel needs for official and unofficial visits.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach, Football Chief of Staff, Director of Athletics and/or their designee.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and team travel as required.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certified, or ability to become certified within 12 months.
