The Associate/Assistant AD for Strategic Communications serves as a key member of the external operations team, which is charged with setting the overall revenue generation and public relations strategies for the athletics department. Will also serve as a member of the senior staff, which is comprised of assistant directors of athletics, associate directors of athletics, senior associate directors of athletics, and the director of athletics. The Associate/Assistant AD for Strategic Communications will lead and direct the athletics department's strategic communications (as part of the creative communications unit), crisis management, serve as the athletics liaison for University Relations, while being directly responsible for Virginia Tech football communications and media relations. This position will directly report to the Associate AD for Creative Communications.
Required:
Bachelor's degree with related experience in athletics communications at the Division I collegiate level, professional sports or similar setting. Cutting-edge knowledge of multimedia communication, public relations and crisis management strategies in athletics. Demonstrated leadership ability and strong work ethic. Demonstrated ability to manage, supervise and professionally develop staff. High degree of integrity and commitment to men's and women's athletics and to the values of diversity. Ability to design systems and protocol to ensure an efficient and effective strategic communications operation. Must be able to meet deadlines and coordinate multiple tasks. Proficient with a content management system (i.e. SIDEARM). The successful candidate will personify the athletic department core values of Integrity, Service, Honor, Excellence, Strong Together.
Preferred:
Advanced degree and/or experience equivalent to an advanced degree. Experience in a Division I collegiate athletics setting. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as it relates to their job responsibilities. Experience as a football communications contact at the Division I level.
