Rockford Universit...y first competed in as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) before joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the 1983-84 academic year. Rockford sponsors 12 intercollegiate varsity teams (6 men's teams and 6 women's teams) and several junior varsity teams, which compete at the NCAA Division III level. On average, approximately one-third of Rockford University students participate in intercollegiate athletics. Many Regents student-athletes compete in two sports and some compete in three. Rockford University athletes compete at several facilities on campus including, Sam Greeley Field (football) and the Seaver Center (basketball and volleyball). Baseball plays at Rivets Stadium, home of the Rockford Rivets baseball team. Soccer and softball compete at Merceyhealth Sportscore Two.
