The Branded Content Department within James Madison University’s Office of Communications and Marketing is accepting applications for a Manager, Content Development. This position reports to the Director of Branded Content & Executive Editor. Online digital portfolio required for consideration.
Duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Coordinate, produce and deliver multimedia content consistent with the JMU brand, aligned with university goals and targeted to inspire constituents to more deeply engage and invest in the university.
Manage media collection and assignment, providing artistic vision and creative consultation to advance the JMU brand with visual content for Branded Content projects for UC&M and university-wide projects.
Apply photojournalistic expertise to UC&M content to achieve strategic communications goals, ensuring that the capture, editing and presentation of still images and moving images tell the stories of James Madison University.
Provide general support and onsite audio/video support for priority initiatives. Produce/direct some on-campus live events and online live streams.
Maintain and update the digital asset management environment focused on user access and retrieval.
Manage equipment, digital tools, photo/video archives and other production resources.
Directly supervise one Content Producer. Hire and oversee student interns and occasional freelance contributors to provide campus photo/video coverage as necessary. Ensure that all staff, student and freelance visual content producers understand the respective responsibilities of their operational teams and assignments.
Respond to photo/video assignments and project requests in a prompt, professional manner.
Complete post-production and editing of multimedia content in a timely, efficient manner.
Assign relevant keywords and tags to image metadata, and write titles and descriptions for produced videos.
Assist the Director of Branded Content & Executive Editor on other projects as necessary.
Other duties as assigned by JMU Branded Content team.
A digital native who consumes, and can create, content for a variety of platforms with a mobile-first mindset.
A skilled storyteller with a passion for creating compelling content for the web, social media, broadcast, print and apps.
Proficiency in digital video, including preproduction, planning, lighting, audio, postproduction and editing.
Very strong photography/videography skills.
Proven storytelling capabilities and experience conducting one-on-one interviews. Demonstrated experience with photo/video editing programs such as Premiere Pro, Lightroom and other Adobe Creative Suite software.
Demonstrated considerable skill with, and knowledge of, digital asset software and hardware, capitalizing on industry innovations that can enhance and improve the university’s digital asset inventory and management system.
Proficient time management, calendaring and prioritization skills.
Availability on weekdays, and some evenings and weekends as events dictate.
Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Dependability, consistency and a willingness to take risks and learn new things.
A team player who gets along well with others and respects the departmental reporting structure.
Experience supervising and mentoring student interns.
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
2+ years of professional experience in conceptualizing and producing multimedia assets.
