Alvernia University, located in Reading, Pennsylvania, is accepting applications for the full-time position of Head Football Coach.
The Head Football Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III Football Program including, but not limited to, recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes and preparing student-athletes for success through practice planning, strategy development, and skill instruction.
The Head Coach will also be responsible for tracking their student-athlete’s academic progress, maintaining appropriate records and paperwork, and ensuring compliance with all university, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), and NCAA policies, rules, and regulations. The Head Coach will be responsible for integrating with the campus community, including service on university-wide committee and attending university events, along with serving as a community relations representative to include community service activities, public speaking engagements, etc.
A Bachelor’s degree and successful experience as a student-athlete and/or coach is required. Master’s degree and college head coaching experience is strongly desired. The successful student-centered candidate will display a record of accomplishment “on the field” as well as “off the field” having served as a mentor and coach to successful student-athletes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate and be able to communicate a commitment to the mission and core values and goals of Alvernia University. Strong organizational, supervisory, and team-building capabilities are required.

Alvernia’s nearly 600 student-athletes compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) with Albright, Lebanon Valley, Messiah, Lycoming, Arcadia, Widener, and Stevenson among others. In the modern era, the Golden Wolves have made 35 NCAA tournament appearances and produced 45 All-Americans, including three student-athletes who went on to play in the MLB. All of Alvernia’s athletic facilities have either been built or renovated in the last 10 years, so student-athletes can use state-of-the-art technology when training and competing.
Reading, Pennsylvania is situated between the scenic Blue and South Mountains in southeastern Pennsylvania. It features a reasonable cost-of-living with high rates of homeownership, substantial healthcare options, and a number of high quality education choices. Reading offers a mix of cultural entertainment destinations, such as the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, the Reading Public Museum, outlet shopping, minor-league sports, and concerts at the Santander Arena. The University is conveniently located an hour from Philadelphia and within an easy two- to three-hour drive of some of the world’s greatest centers of commerce, government, culture, sports, and entertainment: New York, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.
