The head women’s softball coach is responsible for the organization and administration of the intercollegiate softball program within the policies, guidelines, and rules of the NCAA, the Great American Conference, and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. This includes recruiting quality student-athletes, developing successful softball program, and scheduling. Has overall responsibility for compliance of university policies and procedures and state or federal mandates for responsibility areas. These tasks are to be performed in a manner that professionally, cordially, and efficiently assist the students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Description of Job Duties: •Responsible for coaching women’s softball team in a professional and efficient manner •Responsible for recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes to SWOSU’s softball program •Plan and coordinate practices •Monitor academic progress of student-athletes •Work cooperatively with the Athletic Director in matters pertaining to the softball program •Coordinate travel for softball team •Maintain field for play, including raking, dragging, watering, tarping, etc. •Promote and adhere to NCAA rules and regulations •Assist as needed with External Affairs in fund raising efforts •Cultivate a positive and professional relationship with boosters •Promote a positive image of SWOSU through participation in community and professional organizations, representing SWOSU at professional meetings and on community committees, and establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media and other collegiate sports information offices •Responsible for the effective and efficient development and utilization of the Department’s budgetary funds, this includes overseeing and accountability for budgetary record keeping and usage of monies and scholarships • Supervise, train, provide direction, and assign responsibilities for all assistant coaches
Additional Responsibilities: •Available to assist with situations during or after working hours whether in-person, by phone or email contact •Assist other departmental staff during needed times •Submit all paperwork in a timely manner •Attend coaches/faculty conference and meetings as required •Promote personal safety, safety procedures, and a safe work environment •Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment: •12-month appointment •Reports to Athletic Director •Safety and job-related trainings will be completed as instructed •Wage to be established by SWOSU’s wage structure
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Experience in coaching softball at college level desired.
Must achieve and maintain minimum training requirements in First Aid and CPR within first six months of employment.
Must be willing to travel and maintain a current and valid driver license.
Must be willing to drive university van’s for team travel in certain situations.
