Reporting to the director of athletics, the head coach is responsible for the organization and management of a competitive NCAA Division III tennis program in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the College, the Athletic Department, NCAA Division III, and the USA South Athletic Conference.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Ability to coach & teach the technical, mental, & physical components of tennis. Knowledge of recruiting & ability to attract qualified student-athletes in support of the recruiting objectives of the institution. Ability to host and run USTA tennis events throughout the year.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medium work – exerts from 10-25 lbs of force often. Subject to inside and outside conditions and repetitive motions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: -Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. -Demonstrates compliance with all policies, procedures and regulations established by the Athletics Department, the College, the NCAA and the USA South Athletic Conference. -Oversees the recruitment of prospective student-athletes and emphasis on retention. -Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes. -Works within the local tennis community to promote support for the program and sport. -Managing the tennis complex facility including coordination of facility maintenance, managing facility access, and coordination of USTA events & tournaments. -Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Oversight of players & assistant coaching staff
PROBLEM-SOLVING: Intermediate
Bachelor degree required, master’s degree preferred. Desired qualifications include collegiate coaching and recruiting experience, demonstrated ability in skill instruction, practice and game plan development, supervisory experience, general administrative skills including budgetary experience, an appreciation and understand of the mission & core attributes of Division III, knowledge of NCAA legislation and a commitment to rules compliance.
