Essential Job Duties

&#8226;Assist Director of Sports Medicine in management of secondary insurance claims and processing.

&#8226;Summer coverage of athletic training lab for treatment, rehabilitation, and practice coverage.

 Have/Maintain professional rescuer/first aid Certification. 
 Have 0-4 years of full-time work-related experience. 
 
 Preferred 
 
 Hold and earned master&#8217;s degree in a similar discipline or field. 
 2-4 years experience as a collegiate athletic trainer. 
 Instructor in professional rescuer and CPR with American Red Cross. 
 
 Work Environment

Purpose: The Head Athletic Trainer works under the supervision of the Vice President and Athletic Director and supervises the care of student athletes competing in the University&#8217;s athletic program. 
Duties: Directs the athletic training program for Intercollegiate Athletics and oversees the training room. Coordinates medical coverage for athletic events. Manages Assistant Athletic Trainers/Physical Therapists in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Determines, with advice from doctors, when and at what level an athlete can return to participation in a sport. Directs Athletic Training/Sports Medicine operations, including the development and implementation of policies, processes and procedures.
&#8226;Provides/direct medical services to teams as assigned, and assists in the supervision of medical services for all student-athletes to include:

(55%) 

 2. Function: Supervision/Leadership Training and Development  - Oversees, directs and schedules the day-to-day activities of all football athletic training staff; recruits, guides, trains and evaluates full-time staff members and graduate assistants in the performance of their duties; coordinates athletic training schedules and personnel to provide adequate medical coverage for practices, events and contests; monitors licensure and certification requirements for professional staff and service providers to ensure full compliance with established policies and procedures; fully participates in all aspects of the employment recruitment/selection/on-boarding processes for new-hire staff. Supervises and oversees the daily work activities of football athletic training staff; and conducts staff performance evaluations for all football athletic training staff; provides direct reports with guidance and counseling; training and mentorship as needed to maximize their work productivity, enhance job performance, and assist them in identifying professional development opportunities to both grow and advance staff careers within the organization. Function: Records Retention/Reports/Budgets  - Oversees the maintenance of complete, accurate, and detailed medical records for all football student athlete injuries; maintains a secure, accessible system of confidential medical records in accordance with applicable standards of practice and state and Federal laws; fully participates in all budget planning meetings; prepares and submits financial reports, as required by the Assistant Athletic Director, Director of Sports Medicine; and ensures an appropriate inventory of medical supplies, equipment and medications, including appropriate storage, security and maintenance of inventory. (10%) 

 4. Function: Other Duties  - Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director, Sports Performance. (5%) Required Education and Experience: 
 
 Master&#8217;s Degree from an accredited Athletic Training Education Program 
 5 years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer 
 BOC certification

Essential Function:

Responsible for prevention, emergency care, first aid, evaluation, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes under his/her care.
Serve as liaison between the team physician, the athlete, the athlete&#8217;s parents, and coaching staff.&#xa0;
Consultant to coaching staff on conditioning, nutrition, and protective equipment.&#xa0;
Assist with prevention of injuries including education for athletes and Athletic Trainers, identifying factors that put athletes &#8220;at risk&#8221;, correcting deficiencies in athletes as deemed necessary, as well as taping and bracing.&#xa0;
Provide emergency care and first aid including availability of necessary equipment, communication procedures for emergency situations, and prompt, accurate triage.&#xa0;
Evaluate acute and chronic injuries and refer to the team physician or specialist where appropriate. Help decide if a player may return to competition following an injury.&#xa0;
Evaluate concussions and progress the athlete through the return to play protocol
Develop, supervise, evaluate, and modify individual exercise programs for rehabilitation to help athletes return to a pre-injury status.&#xa0;
Maintain records including injury reports, home care instructions, referrals, treatment records, rehabilitation progress notes, and insurance information.&#xa0;
Secure training room equipment and supplies as needed.&#xa0;
Provide education and supervision for athletes and students.&#xa0;
Cover team practices allowing access to the athletic training room.&#xa0;
Cover sporting events as scheduled with the athletic director.&#xa0;&#xa0;
Maintains accurate and complete student documentation as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
Make the training room facilities and medical attention available to school athletes with arrangements made by the coach and the Athletic Trainer.

Specific Responsibilities

Pre-Participation: Oversee the organization of pre-season physicals and the collection of mandatory pre-participation medical paperwork.

Facility Oversight: Assist in managing the daily operations, maintenance, and upkeep of the athletic training room

Inventory: Assist with supply inventory &#38; equipment maintenance.

Liaison Services: Act as a primary point of contact between student-athletes and coaches regarding injury status and return-to-play protocols.

Team Coverage: Manage primary sport assignments as designated by the Director of Sports Medicine, including comprehensive coverage for practices, home events, and team travel.

Drug Testing: Assist with the coordination and execution of institutional and NCAA drug-testing procedures.

Event Management: Provide athletic training services for university-hosted events and external rentals as requested.

Compliance &#38; Ethics: Maintain strict adherence to the philosophy and objectives of the Athletics Department, Adams State University, the RMAC, and NCAA regulations.

Responsibilities

Assist the Athletic Training department in providing sports medicine services and coverage for 14 varsity sports. This is a 100% Athletic Training role. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing practice and event coverage including evenings and weekends, supervision of athletic training facilities and student first aiders. Assistant Athletic Trainer provides care, prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation and documentation of injuries for assigned sport responsibilities. Communication with sports medicine, coaching, and athletic administration staff is expected. Sport assignments and other duties to be determined by the Head Athletic Trainer.  

Additional duties will be determined, in part, by the experiences and strengths of the

successful candidate and may include assisting with game operations and/or teaching a

sports studies course.

Recognize the role of medications in the recovery process. Provide patient education necessary to facilitate recovery.

Perform a comprehensive examination of the patient with an orthopedic injury or medical condition (e.g., medical history, physical examination, differential diagnosis, and referral). 

Communicate the nature of examination and treatment plan to patient and other involved health care personnel, respecting the privacy of the patient.

Inspect facilities to ensure they are free of hazards, are sanitary, and that equipment is maintained properly.

 Maintain NATA certification and New York State licensure through CEUs.
 Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in the selection, purchase and maintenance of all athletic training equipment and medical supplies while working within the parameters of the department budget.
 Help to update annually and maintain Student-Athlete Handbook and the Sports Medicine Emergency Action Plan.
 Represent Mount Saint Mary College Athletics at all Skyline Conference athletic training meetings when necessary. 
 The successful candidate will ensure a culture of compliance with all NCAA Division III, Skyline Conference and Mount Saint Mary College rules and regulations and ensure all staff members and student-athletes comply with the same.
 
 Travel required  
This position requires occasional overnight travel, including local trips to other colleges, as well as travel for championship competitions, the NATA Convention, and conference meetings.
 Education and Experience: 
 
 Bachelor&#8217;s Degree (required)

5.Educate coaches and student-athletes on student-athlete health and well-being, including injury prevention, concussion protocols, nutrition, hydration, and the philosophy of athletic training services.


6.Oversee the compilation, organization, input, and maintenance of all medical records for College student-athletes, and ensure the security of student-athlete insurance policies and medical records in adherence to College, HIPAA, and FERPA guidelines.


7.Arrange and maintain working relationships with appropriate medical personnel, including local physicians, specialists, and team medical consultants, for the evaluation, treatment, and care of injured student-athletes.


8.Serve as the primary liaison to all medical consultants, specialists, medical service providers, and the Alverno College Wellness Center.


9.Coordinate and schedule medical referrals and mental health evaluations for student-athletes, determining return-to-play status in collaboration with medical professionals.


10.Coordinate and facilitate any Department of Athletics drug testing programs in accordance with College, conference, and NCAA policies.


11.Serve as the designated NCAA Health Care Administrator for the College.


12.Oversee the organization and administration of the College&#8217;s Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens in compliance with OSHA medical safeguard regulations.


13.Update and maintain the Emergency Action Plan for the Department of Athletics on an annual basis.


14.Ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, Title IX, Department of Athletics, and Alverno College rules and regulations related to athletic training, student-athlete health care, and sports medicine services.


15.Oversee inventory management and tracking of all sports medicine equipment and supplies.


16.Develop plans for program enhancement and professional development for the sports medicine team.


17.Maintain the athletic trainer&#8217;s yearly calendar of coverage and ensure appropriate staffing levels.


18.Participate in department meetings, committees, and official College functions, as appropriate.

The Athletic Trainer Intern is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of all injuries to Xavier University Student Athletes and Cheerleader, specifically responsible for organizing all sports medicine coverage for the teams/groups assigned. The athletic trainer will follow all divisional protocols and procedures as written following Xavier, NCAA, NATA and State of Ohio Board (OTPTAT). 

Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Deliver comprehensive care to student-athletes and cheerleaders, including injury prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and appropriate referral
Provide coverage for practices and competitions (including potential team travel), as well as pre- and post-activity treatments
Coordinate referrals to appropriate healthcare providers, both within and external to the University
Assist with pre-participation and exit physical examinations and screenings
Maintain regular communication with coaches, including weekly injury reports, and serve as a liaison between student-athletes and team physicians
Coordinate and/or provide transportation for student-athletes to medical and health-related appointments
Assisting with sports medicine coverage during weight room hours
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records
Monitoring and tracking inventory of sports medicine supplies Assisting with maintenance, upkeep, and calibration of athletic training equipment
Assisting with oversite and mentorship of MSAT students
Supporting the coordination of annual educational programming for coaching staff related to NCAA compliance (e.g., concussion protocols, sickle cell awareness, emergency action plans, CPR/AED training)
Assisting with oversite and mentorship of MSAT students c. Maintaining accurate and timely daily treatment documentation
Required Qualifications:

Master&#8217;s Degree in Athletic Training required
NATABOC Certification
Ohio OTPTAT License
CPR/AED Certification
Possess a philosophy of athletic training and wellbeing that supports the mission of Xavier University and its Athletic Department
Knowledge and a history of compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations
Possess a valid driver&#8217;s license and meet the requirements for insurability under Xavier&#8217;s University&#8217;s policy

    Billing and insurance coordination

Direct Professional Care - 50%

    Providing high quality athletic health care to specific athletic programs, including: prevention, evaluation, treatment, student-athlete education, and short &#38; long term rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
    Maintaining proper and accurate, up-to-date medical records and injury documentation.
    Working closely with allied medical health professionals to ensure proper and swift medical care. Master&#8217;s degree in Athletic Training or related field and a minimum of five years post graduate experience in the college/university/professional level&#xa0;or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. 
 
 Current National Athletic Trainer&#8217;s Association, Board of Certification (NATABOC) and CPR/AED certification. 
 Athletic Trainer Licensure through the state of Washington. 
 Strong written and oral communication skills. 
 Strong organizational skills. 
 Experience supervising, leading, or directing other staff certified athletic trainers. 
 Requires the ability to work several nights and weekends, as well as some holidays.
