The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach reports directly to the Head Men’s Soccer Coach and shares responsibility for the success of the Athletics programs at Millsaps College. The Assistant Coach helps provide leadership and direction for the college’s soccer team, including but not limited to student recruitment, planning, training and development of players. This position supports the soccer program at Millsaps College and also the Department of Athletics.
Job Duties
Recruit and evaluate high school and college athletes within college admissions and NCAA Division III guidelines;
Comprehend the NCAA Division III philosophy emphasizing academic, athletics;
Provide on field coaching of athlete skill development;
Assist in the planning of practice sessions;
Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and counseling;
Assist with the coordination of team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals;
Assist in scouting opponents;
Assist with fund-raising programs to augment operations budget;
Maintain parent and alumnae communication;
Comply with all NCAA Division III, Southern Athletics Association (SAA), and Millsaps College guidelines;
Accept game-day administrator obligations each semester, if necessary;
Organize community service activities for team members and coaches;
Participate in various other areas of interest for the College, Student Life, and Athletics;
Accept additional duties assigned by the Head Men's Soccer Coach or the Athletics Director.
Qualifications
Millsaps does not have H1B Visa sponsorship program. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States for consideration.
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience playing soccer at the collegiate level;
1-2 years of coaching experience; college coaching preferred;
College recruiting experience preferred;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Able to work in team environments and individually;
Proven ability to promote a positive team environment and cultivate good morale;
Highly organized, creative problem-solver who takes initiative;
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools. Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to varying technological environments.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds without assistance
Must have a valid state-issued driver's license
Must be able to traverse college campus and climb stairs
Occasional stooping, bending, lifting and reaching are required
Manual dexterity needed for demonstrating proper form and technique, participating in team practices and other repetitive tasks
