Abilene Christian University, a NCAA Division I institution and member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), is seeking qualified applications for the position of Director of Marketing. Wildcats Athletics is a not for profit corporation which was organized in 1919 to foster the development of intercollegiate athletics in conjunction with the educational activities of Abilene Christian University. Wildcats Athletics operates the varsity intercollegiate programs (17 programs) of Abilene Christian University. With a total enrollment of over 6,219 students ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. Position Summary: Reporting to the Senior Associate AD for Brand Development and Fan Experience, this position will create, develop, and promote events while assisting in the execution of marketing strategies through various communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the creation and execution annual marketing plans for the intercollegiate athletics programs, focusing on increasing attendance with enhancing the game day experience;
Serve as the primary marketing contact for Men’s Basketball, Tennis (M/W), Golf (M/W), Cross Country/Track and Field (M/W) and the secondary contact for Football and Baseball;
Manage the execution of the Rally Cats Experience Program;
Work in conjunction with Abilene Christian Sports Properties to implement and fulfill all corporate sponsorships;
Build relationships with campus partners in order to collaborate on home events with the focus of enhancing the student experience;
Provide leadership and direction for marketing staff as assigned. This includes but not limited to: Marketing Assistant(s), Student Interns, and Student Volunteers;
Perform other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate AD for Brand Development and Fan Experience.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and interest in Business, Marketing, Sports Management, or related field;
Two (2) to Three (3) years of experience in athletic marketing/fan experiences;
Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, in order to create and present marketing plans, promotional materials, proposals and advertising;
A high degree of self-motivation and organization as it relates to various tasks;
Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, and great attention to detail;
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment;
Skill to establish and nurture strong relationships with students and members of the community;
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity;
Ability to interpret and review manuals, game reports, marketing plans and proposals;
Proficiency with MS Office and internet social networking sites;
Must be able to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends;
A basic understanding of college athletics at the NCAA Division I level;
Ability to endure long hours and extended periods walking;
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and arrange tables and chairs for events;
Possible exposure to weather extremes;
Ability to maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong Christian beliefs and values;
Master’s Degree and interest in Business, Marketing, Sports Management, or related field;
Experience managing student staff;
Knowledge in creating marketing collateral and/or concepts for an athletic department;
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator;
General knowledge of all WAC and NCAA guidelines related to marketing, fan experience and game management.
