Job Description This position is responsible for providing daily oversight and event support for all athletics facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to: budget, maintenance, supervision of all athletics facility/maintenance full and part-time employees, as well as facility/event planning and support. This position will assist Athletics leadership with the strategic planning for capital and small construction projects. Duties will include daily and event facility/maintenance budget oversight (including coordination with campus/facilities services division). Position will define and establish athletics facility manager staff and roles required to support year-round alignment related to department's facility and event needs. Work with Senior Associate Athletics Director/Event Management, Director of Thompson-Boling Arena @ Food City Center, and Athletics Director of Special Events and Hospitality to formulate and incorporate facility event and budget requirements needed to support all aspects of Athletics Events.
Responsibilities - Complete oversight of all daily operations (and event support) for the Athletics Facilities/Maintenance Department. - Direct, plan, supervise, and evaluate full-time and part-time employees and student assistants, who are involved in cleaning, maintenance, and repair of all athletic facilities and equipment. - Interact with Athletics Department Administration and sport programs to ensure all facility needs are aligned, prioritized, and objectives met. - Assist Athletics leadership with the planning/fulfillment of projects and support in alignment with the Athletics department's vision and strategic planning. - Assist in the oversight and implementation of the athletics facilities maintenance budget. - Utilize budget to maintain workforce of carpenters, maintenance specialists, operators, support staff and other specialists to support renovation, minor construction, and maintenance activities. - Oversee purchases and procurement of services, equipment and supplies, requested by staff. Ensure that such activities are consistent with UTK policies and procedures and stat guidelines, rules and laws. - Establish and designate facility managers for each athletic facility. Duties to include daily and event support for all Athletics, Arena, and Special Events. This position will coordinate and define appropriate events and facility campus personnel (including Athletics budget alignment/approval) via collaboration with athletics leadership, the campus department of facility services, and all other essential campus and local operations support. Position will serve as a direct liaison to campus Facilities Services. - Work with Senior Associate Athletics Director/Event Management, Director of Thompson-Boling Arena @ Food City Center, and Athletics Director of Special Events and Hospitality to formulate and incorporate facility event and budget requirements needed to support all aspects of Athletics Events. - Other duties as assigned by Athletics department leadership.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree
Experience: 10 years of experience working in/with NCAA Division 1 collegiate facilities and grounds.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Working knowledge and expertise of local and state Standard Building Codes and Life Safety 101 Codes.
Awareness of the State of Tennessee Fire Marshal renovation and construction requirements.
Working knowledge and expertise in the use of AutoCAD, Adobe PDF, and Adobe Photoshop.
Thorough knowledge/expertise of a wide range of Carpentry methodologies.
Knowledge of industry elemental costs relating to Facility Renovation to provide valid estimates.
Knowledge of UTK/State of Tennessee Employment Procedures, Rules, and Regulations.
Knowledge of UTK/State of Tennessee Purchasing and Fiscal Procedures, Rules, and Regulations.
Knowledge of the function, intent, purpose, and requirements of athletic venues to include Baseball Stadiums, Basketball/Concert Arenas, Golf Practice Facilities, Football Stadiums, Soccer Stadiums, Softball Stadiums, Indoor/Outdoor Swimming Facilities, and Indoor/Outdoor Track Facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: Experience within the sports industry, including but not limited to multi-sport and multi-facility management and operation.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must be a team player who can integrate his/her views and actions with those policies and procedures established by the ranking Athletic Administration.
Excellent communication abilities, including both verbal and written.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Excellent customer service skills.
Incredible patience and ability to skillfully handle either irate workers or multiple customers who are upset over myriad problems with their seats, leaks, audiovisual shortcomings, parking, portable toilets, water coolers, restrooms, concessions, etc.
Good listener with strong interpersonal and relational skills
