Description The University of Mount Union is seeking a dedicated and motivated Graduate Assistant to join our Strength and Conditioning team. This position provides an excellent opportunity for individuals pursing a graduate degree while gaining valuable hands-on experience in strength and conditioning within a competitive collegiate athletics environment.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Program Design and Implementation Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring strength and conditioning programs for various intercollegiate athletic teams. Tailor training regimens based on individual athlete needs, sport-specific demands, and performance goals. 2. Athlete Assessment Conduct initial assessments to evaluate athletes' strength, conditioning, and overall fitness levels. Utilize performance metrics to track athlete progress and adjust training programs as necessary. 3. Coaching and Instruction Provide on-field and in-gym instruction on proper lifting techniques, injury prevention, and conditioning strategies. Educate athletes on nutrition, recovery, and overall wellness. 4. Collaboration Work closely with head coaches, athletic trainers, and sports medicine staff to coordinate training schedules and athlete care. Attend team practices and events as necessary to provide support and guidance. 5. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records of training sessions, assessments, and athlete progress. Assist in the organization of strength and conditioning facilities, including equipment maintenance and safety protocols. 6. Professional Development Engage in ongoing education and training to stay current with strength and conditioning practices and research. Attend workshops, conferences, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field. Acceptance into a graduate program at the University of Mount Union Previous experience in strength and conditioning, preferably in a collegiate or high school setting. Certification from a recognized organization (e.g., NSCA, CSCCa) is preferred or must be obtained within the first year of employment. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Descriptive Information Expectations: Uphold the high professional standard of conduct expected of each person on campus as outlined in the Employee Handbook and NCAA guidelines. Build positive interpersonal relationships in and out of the athletic department by attending University functions, both social and professional; staff meetings; serving on committees; etc.
