Drake University is seeking an individual to serve as the first assistant coach of the softball program. This includes assisting with recruitment, practice sessions, scheduling and operations management. A key area of responsibility will be play development of principles and skills. Incumbent must be dedicated to the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes and promote the mission and values of Drake University and Drake Athletics.
- Assist in the development and execution of effective practice and competition plans. Provide feedback, including explanations and demonstrations, to student-athletes related to technique and skill development to achieve proficiency. This includes scouting and game preparation.
- Assist in recruiting and retaining talented student-athletes who represent the Drake prototype in communication with the Head Coach.
- Assist with administrative duties, including but not limited to: NCAA and Drake compliance processes, coordination of team travel plans, competition scheduling, business and finance paperwork, facilities reservations, fundraising, etc.
- Support a positive academic, athletic, and social environment for student-athletes within the softball program creating a culture of excellence and ethics.
- Contribute to a positive working environment. Demonstrate appropriate communication as it relates to internal and external constituents.
- All of the duties described above require an understanding of and compliance with the rules of the NCAA, the Missouri Valley Conference, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Summit League and/or the Pioneer Football League and Drake University.
One to three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level; Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high quality student-athletes from diverse backgrounds; Effective communication skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of people. The successful candidate should have a valid drivers license and a driving record that meets the insurability requirements to drive on behalf of the University.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; Four years of progressively responsible experience at the NCAA Division I level.
