Context of the Job:
The Assistant Director, Broadcast, at the University of Delaware is a valued member within the University and Department of Athletics, Community and Campus Recreation (DACCR) upholding and embracing the departmental mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together.' The Assistant Director, Broadcast will assist with all streaming production and broadcast content on behalf of the University of Delaware's Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, Community and Campus Recreation. This position will be charged with supporting Delaware's video streaming online across our 21 varsity sports, cheer, and various recreation and club services and will oversee a team of student interns and a full-time position. The Assistant Director, Broadcast will assist the Director, Broadcast in the execution of the digital streaming strategy and leading the broadcast production for the External Relations area in the Department of Athletics, Community and Campus Recreation (DACCR). The Assistant Director, Broadcast will work closely across the External relations staff, including with multimedia, communications, and marketing teams, as well with various contacts inside the unit (coaches, administrators and staff) and outside the unit (vendors, partners, businesses, Alumni, Development, OCM, UMS, and parallel staff members at other intuitions). While the primary focus is broadcast, this position should be able to help creatively and proactively ideate story angles and features in collaboration with the communications team as needed.
Responsibilities:
Work with the Director, Broadcast to develop, staff and oversee a streaming schedule for sporting events, press events, and other special events, etc.
Direct, produce and coordinate the stream productions of sporting events, press events, special events, etc.
Maintain an inventory of broadcast equipment and be able to proactively troubleshoot technical issues when they arise. Equipment includes Broadcast and cinema style cameras, microphones and audio mixers, variety signal converters, etc.
Develop and implement graphics package for streaming and linear broadcast productions.
Support the recruitment, scheduling and training of student workers. Training positions include camera operator, graphics, replay, directing, etc.
Take an active role in increasing the volume and quality of stream productions to provide a top caliber product to our fans.? Assist external broadcast production crews/vendors in buildup to airtime.
Maintain and track sponsor inventory.
Troubleshoot various media systems within Athletics including Daktronics Video Boards and ShowControl.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Exemplary communication (written and verbal) skills.
Working knowledge of streaming software including Wirecast, and OBS preferred.
Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects
Strong knowledge of various computer operating systems (Windows, Mac OS) preferred.
Knowledge of various production systems including Ross Dashboard, Carbonite switcher, Mira replay and NewTek Tricaster TC1, and 3Play preferred.
Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
