The Athletic Trainer/MBB is a twelve-month position and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing all phases of a Division I sports medicine program. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing athletic-related medical care for all student-athletes;
- Provide daily treatments, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries/illnesses for student-athletes;
- Travel will be required but not limited to the teams assigned to the Head Athletic Trainer for the regular season and championship competitions;
- Establish a line of communication with coaches/medical personnel concerning student-athlete status with their injury/illness;
- Liaison with Little Rock Team Physicians and other medical personnel concerning student-athlete medical care;
- Coordinates student-athlete appointments and follow-ups with physicians as needed. This includes but is not limited to orthopedic, ophthalmic, dental, and family practice;
- Maintain and update individual student-athlete files including but not limited to medical treatment/history, rehabilitation programs, drug testing results, and family insurance information;
- Communicate with Head Coaches concerning student-athlete welfare;
- Parental contact in case of serious injury or perceived incident with the Head Coach;
- Schedule and coordinate institutional drug testing;
- Communicate with Insurance Companies regarding claims, EOBs, and secondary insurance coverage;
- Coordinate annual physicals for incoming and returning student-athletes;
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Senior Staff and Associate Head Athletic Trainer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of University, Ohio Valley, and NCAA rules and regulations;
- Possess the requisite qualities for the profession;
- Sports injury assessment, treatment, management, and rehabilitation;
- Knowledge of applicable laws related to medical information (i.e. HIPPA);
- Appropriate taping, wrapping, and use of protective devices;
- Able to handle a high workload in a demanding environment and be well organized;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information and issues; and able to work independently
Qualifications
- Earned bachelor’s degree;
- Minimum of four years of athletic training experience;
- NATABOC certified; Arkansas licensed or eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred in athletic training or related field.
