Summary: Reporting to the University Registrar (who serves as the official Certifying Officer for Charleston Southern University), the Athletic Certification Officer is responsible for obtaining, evaluating, and documenting the academic credentials in accordance with NCAA and Big South Conference academic eligibility rules.
Work Performed: Maintain and manage all student-athlete eligibility certification documentation. Interact with the Office of Athletic Academics and the NCAA Compliance. Office regarding academic progress and maintain information flow regarding student-athletes academic eligibility. Provide ongoing monitoring of student-athletes NCAA Progress Towards Degree Requirements. Stay current with NCAA rules and regulations as it pertains to academic eligibility. Access ARMS, Eligibility Center and/or Compliance Assistant databases for updates on all initial eligibility. Coordinate with the Office of Athletic Academics regarding degree requirements and degree audit reports. Track ongoing certification in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations. Maintain and update all academic information for student-athletes in ARMS/Compliance Assistant databases. Attend annual NCAA Regional Rules Seminar and other training opportunities as necessary to remain current in all regulation conformances. Present completed certification documentation to the University Registrar for approval; providing signed documents to the Compliance Office for official NCAA reporting. Assist the NCAA Compliance Office and the Office of Athletic Academics with the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) reports, waivers, improvement plans, etc. Serve as liaison between the University Registrar and the Athletic Department on all issues related to the eligibility of student-athletes. Meet with the staff of the Athletics Department, academic, and compliance staff for regularly scheduled meetings to discuss emerging issues. In conjunction with Compliance, review and modify, as necessary, the Athletic Certification Calendar. Adhere to all reporting and monitor deadlines as identified in the Calendar.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Applicants must: have excellent written and verbal communication skills; be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team; be able to read, understand and interpret University, NCAA and Big South Conference policies and regulations; be computer literate with a mastery of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn, and successfully use NCAA software including, but not limited to, Compliance Assistant, as well as ARMS and other databases necessary to extract transcript and eligibility and to perform the functions of the job; be able to explain complex NCAA rules, interpretations, certification issues and university transcripts.
