This position supports the mission of the College and the holistic and integrated philosophy of the Student Wellness, Recreation, & Athletics (SWRA) department with a focus on the health of student-athletes. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of a quality collegiate athletic training program, which is in conformity with NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics), Cascade Conference, and college policy and procedures.
As the supervising athletic training professional, this position is critical to the care and prevention of athletic injuries of every athlete at the institution. The position is responsible for coordinating the care of Evergreen’s student-athletes along a continuum of preventive care and conditioning, injury evaluation, treatment/referral, and post-injury care and rehabilitation. The position communicates with all head and assistant coaches about the health of student-athletes, eligibility, and training programs. The incumbent works collaboratively with staff across SWRA and specialized medical care off campus to maximize the health, safety, and participation of student-athletes across Evergreen’s NAIA intercollegiate athletics program which includes Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Wrestling, and Women’s Volleyball.
Essential Functions
· Provide supervision to Athletic Training staff and oversee the operation of a healthy and safe athletic training room/facility that is professional, clean, safe, and welcoming for all student-athletes.
· Provide on-site athletic training services for all intercollegiate teams, which includes Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, Men’s and Women’s Wrestling, and Women’s Volleyball.
· Regularly attend practice and training sessions to assess the needs of student-athletes.
· Develop, monitor, and maintain a comprehensive program to maximize the health and safety of all student-athletes through a scope of care that includes injury prevention, injury care, and rehabilitation.
· Work effectively and collaboratively with all head and assistant coaches, on campus medical providers,
and community medical providers, including specialists, to coordinate and provide appropriate care and management of ailments and injuries commonly affecting student-athletes.
· Act as central point of contact for coaches and medical providers regarding proactive care, prevention, and post-injury care.
· Conduct Concussion Baseline Testing, pre-participation physicals, and return to play clearances.
· Develop and maintain policy, procedures, and scope of practice in compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including but not limited to, HIPAA and the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA).
· Develop, implement, and regularly update department Emergency Action Plan.
· Maintain necessary and appropriate confidential medical records; document injuries and manage as appropriate, maintain records for individual student-athletes, as well as make referrals to on and off campus medical partners, documenting follow-through with treatment recommendations.
· Be prepared for any traumatic injuries and seek additional assistance through emergency first responders for treatment or transport to hospital.
· Administer CPR/AED/First Aid when necessary and follow Blood Borne Pathogen procedures for blood spills and procedures for bodily fluids.
· Coordinate facility needs with the Associate Director for Intercollegiate Athletics.
· Maintain a system for tracking athlete information and utilization and provide seasonal reports by sport and by gender, as required by record and reporting requirements for the department.
· Prepare budget recommendations and manage fiscal transactions related to athletic training in accordance with college policy and procedure.
· Requisition, purchase, and manage inventory of athletic training supplies.
· Perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with NAIA Official & Policy Handbook, appropriate medical policies, and Cascade Conference Guidelines.
· Consult and collaborate with designated medical personnel.
· Assist in educating student-athletes about ethics and conduct as members of Evergreen’s intercollegiate program.
· Participate in continuing education and professional meetings and network with other medical professionals.
· Participate in departmental staff meetings and represent the department in meetings, committees, and workgroups.
· Partner with Student Wellness Services to maximize the health of student-athletes through on-going prevention and outreach efforts, including facilitating access to primary insurance.
· May perform other duties as assigned, such as assessing training or related department needs and resources and subsequently managing modifications and implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
· Master’s degree.
· Certified Athletic Trainer Licensure in the state of Washington or ability to obtain licensure within three months of employment.
· Two years of professional athletic and strength/conditioning training experience.
Desired Qualifications
· Professional athletic and strength/conditioning training or related experience in a higher educational institution.
