Position Summary The Director of Coaching (DOC) provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all VSA coaches to ensure excellence in player development, curriculum alignment, and coaching consistency across programs. This role focuses on developing, mentoring, and evaluating coaches to deliver a positive and high-performing learning environment. The DOC also plays a key role in maintaining a cohesive coaching culture, ensuring alignment with VSA’s mission, and fostering collaboration across all levels of play.
Key Responsibilities
Coach Management • Conduct seasonal evaluations for all head and assistant coaches, with written feedback and follow-up meetings. • Ensure 100% coach licensing compliance or active progression toward required VSA standards. • Oversee new coach onboarding, ensuring completion of all training, HR, and compliance requirements within 30 days of hire.
Coach Development
• Plan, organize, and deliver 4+ annual coaching education sessions, combining classroom and on-field instruction.
• Achieve 90%+ attendance at mandatory coaching education events. • Conduct and document 2+ practice observations per coach per season, providing actionable, developmental feedback.
Club Alignment & Delivery • Ensure 90%+ session alignment with the VSA curriculum through random audits and feedback loops. • Monitor game model adherence, with 85%+ implementation across applicable age groups. • Lead monthly alignment meetings with the Technical Director (TD) and Director of Player Development (DPD) to maintain program consistency.
Culture & Retention • Drive a positive coaching culture, targeting 85%+ favorable ratings on internal staff satisfaction surveys. • Maintain 90%+ annual retention of paid coaching staff. • Lead 2+ recognition and appreciation initiatives per year to strengthen engagement and morale.
Operational Support • Ensure 100% coverage for known absences through the established substitute coach protocol. • Maintain a 48-hour response time for administrative and communication requests. • Enforce 100% compliance with all club policies, deadlines, and PlayMetrics procedures.
Game Day Presence • Attend a minimum of 3+ weekends per month for coach and team evaluations. • Deliver sideline feedback for each team at least once per season, with follow-up notes shared via PlayMetrics.
Leadership & Reporting • Submit mid-year and end-of-year performance summaries for all assigned coaches. • Contribute actively to tryout planning, staff assignments, and seasonal reviews. • Partner with club leadership to identify and mentor emerging coaching talent within the VSA system.
Performance Standards & Measurement Success in this role is evaluated through measurable outcomes, including: • 100% completion of coach evaluations, licensing, and onboarding. • 90%+ coach attendance and retention across seasons. • 85–90%+ implementation of curriculum and game model standards. • Consistent documentation of observations, alignment meetings, and feedback. • Timely, responsive communication within all internal timelines and reporting cycles.
