Elmira College, a member of NCAA Division III and the Empire 8 Conference, invites applications for the position of Head Men’s Basketball Coach. This full-time position is responsible for all facets of the men’s basketball program, including but not limited to strategic planning, daily instruction, recruiting, budget management, and overall student-athlete development. The successful candidate will lead a program that reflects Elmira’s commitment to excellence in academics and athletics, and foster a team culture centered on integrity, accountability, and growth.The head coach supports the entire Athletic Department by performing an ancillary duty as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Posting will be available until May 16, 2025.

This is a full-time position. This position does not require scheduled office hours during a predetermined two-month time frame between June 1 and August 15.

Key Responsibilities:

Coaching & Player Development

Provide on-court instruction, individual skill development, and game-day strategy for a competitive NCAA Division III men’s basketball program, promote a team-first mentality focused on effort, sportsmanship, and continuous improvement, supervise and mentor assistant coaches and support staff

Recruiting

Recruit student-athletes who demonstrate strong academic potential, athletic ability, and character that aligns with Elmira College’s mission, build and maintain a comprehensive recruiting network through in-person and digital outreach, attending showcases, and coordinating campus visits

Program Administration

Develop competitive game schedules in compliance with NCAA and Empire 8 regulations, manage the program’s annual budget, including travel, equipment, and recruiting expenses; coordinate travel, lodging, and meals for away contests, maintain timely communication with campus stakeholders, alumni, and prospective families

Academic and Personal Development

Support the academic success of student-athletes through regular check-ins, progress monitoring, and collaboration with faculty and academic services, promote personal growth, leadership development, and wellness within the team

Community Engagement & Fundraising

Represent Elmira College Men’s Basketball within the local community, alumni network, and among peer institutions, collaborate with the Athletics Department and Institutional Advancement on fundraising initiatives and donor engagement

Additional Expectations

Attend departmental meetings and campus-wide events as a representative of Elmira Athletics, address disciplinary issues and student-athlete conduct in accordance with institutional policies, uphold the College’s mission and values through professional conduct and ethical decision-making

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
• Prior collegiate coaching experience required, preferably at the NCAA Division III level
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain student-athletes in a competitive academic environment
• Strong understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulation
• Proven leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive team environment
