The Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach serves to assist with all functions of the USC Upstate Women’s Basketball program.
•Provides instruction and player development during practice [Drills, Exercises, Scrimmages, Rules, Scouting].
•Provides instruction during competitions.
•Recruits’ quality student-athletes (off-campus evaluations and contacts, on- campus visits, phone calls, written correspondence, etc.). Recruiting – implement a comprehensive recruiting plan. Identify and recruit athletically and academically qualified student-athletes including international students to compete at the highest level of competition in the Big South and nationally. Maintain database of high school prospects; send out regular information and updates on the program, keep track of all incoming and outgoing correspondence as it relates to recruits.
•Scouts opponents as directed by the Head Coach.
•Coordinates team travel (hotels, meals, misc.) and team meals for home games.
•Other duties as assigned by Head Coach.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and two years previous college coaching and/or playing experience required. Successful completion annually of NCAA recruiting exam is required, if applicable. Proof of valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Must be able to occasionally travel overnight, both nationally and internationally, for recruitment purposes. Valid passport or ability to obtain one is required. Must be able to cultivate and manage key relationships. Must be able to negotiate with and persuade others. Must have a general knowledge of the college admissions process.
Preferred: Prior experience in international recruiting or admissions; Ability to work with different populations while understanding and appreciating the cultural background of recruits; Ability to speak more than one language; and Experience includes knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, exceptional interpersonal skills, computer skills, and strong written and oral communication skills.
