Job Summary: The Physical Therapist's responsibilities include preventing sports-related injuries and illnesses, as well as evaluating these injuries. The role also involves treating and rehabilitating athletic injuries, in addition to offering counseling and educational support to student athletes. Administrative duties associated with athletic training will be outlined as necessary. Furthermore, the Physical Therapist will assist in coordinating medical coverage for workouts, practices, and competitions, both at home and away, which entails scheduling student and graduate assistant athletic trainers. Supervision, education, and recruitment of these assistants are also essential aspects of the position.
Exceptional Working Conditions: Travel is required in performance of this position: Travel will be required for off campus proper athletic events that the Athletic Training Department needs to cover. This individual will also travel to meetings and conventions to maintain CEU credit for NATA and/or APTA. Work schedule will vary according to practice and event schedules. These can change depending on availability of facilities and weather changes. Athletic events will take place on weekends and holidays
Environmental Hazards: Infectious disease, heat, contact with participants such as on the sidelines of an athletic event.?? Possibility of hot, cold or rainy conditions during athletic events. Noise can also be a factor during athletic events.??
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs., stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.? Extensive amount of time standing each day.
Skills, Proficiencies and Knowledge: -Strong analytical, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, University and community constituencies -Working Knowledge of NCAA Rules and guidelines. -Ability to direct and perform confidential detailed work with accuracy under deadline pressure -Knowledge and understanding of guidelines in the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook -Extensive knowledge of OSHA guidelines and universal precautions. -Must be able to lift in excess of 100 lbs -Extensive amount of time standing per day and a willingness to work extended hours including evenings, weekends and holidays. -Must be able to deal with heat and changing weather precautions and ability to direct personnel in case of severe weather -Ability to manage and direct multiple personnel and tasks at one time -Experience and knowledge of organizing strength programs, especially for injured student athletes -Working knowledge of basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database function
Qualifications -Master’s of Physical Therapy or equivalent field of study -3-5 years of Physical Therapy Experience, preferably with Division I Athletics -Certified by the American Physical Therapy Association -Prior to hire: Licensed Physical Therapist?? -Valid Driver's License -Travel is required
Preferred: -Certification by NASM as PES/or CES.,PT -3-5 years of Physical Therapy Experience with Division 1 Athletics -Experience with aquatic rehabilitation -Experience with Manual Therapy Techniques

The Mission of the Sports Medicine department is to serve Oklahoma State University student athletes in providing excellent health care. This includes prevention, assessment, management, referral and rehabilitation of athletic-related injuries and illnesses in an effective treatment plan that seeks the efficient, safe and expedient return of the student-athlete to sport.
The Sports Medicine Staff will work in conjunction with the team physicians, athletic administration, academic services, the strength and conditioning department, and the Athletic Training Education Program to ensure the many-faceted needs of the student athlete are met throughout their careers at Oklahoma State University.
