Job Summary: As part of an NCAA Division III institution and the NESCAC conference, the Athletic Training Department at Bowdoin College supports student-athletes in achieving both athletic and academic success, prioritizing their overall well-being. Athletic trainers collaborate closely with physicians, physical therapists, and coaches to ensure the health and safety of athletes, focusing on injury prevention and recovery. With a commitment to excellence, they handle medical decisions and return-to-play protocols with the utmost care and expertise.
The Athletic Trainer plays a crucial role in overseeing the diagnosis, treatment, and development of personalized rehabilitation plans. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Comprehensive injury management, from prevention and recognition to evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, as well as administering emergency first aid in the event of injury
Establishing a system that guarantees athletes receive independent medical care while ensuring that team doctors and athletic trainers have the ultimate authority on decisions about an athlete's health and when they are cleared to return to play
Providing essential administrative support to the athletic training department, which may include managing student-athlete rosters, coordinating in-service training for staff, and managing training staff documentation
Supervising student workers

The target salary for this position is $59,000

Proficiency in the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and the development of appropriate rehabilitation programs.
Ability to manage multiple student engagements and head coach relationships simultaneously
Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality
Ability and willingness to learn new medical diagnosis and treatment techniques
Exceptional oral and written communication capabilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
Please note: This is a physically demanding position that requires Athletic Trainers to stand for extended periods, maintain high stamina and mobility, lift or carry up to 50+ pounds, demonstrate excellent fine motor skills, and possess heightened sensory perception. Ability to clear a pre-employment physical assessment is required.
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents:
At least 1 - 3 years of relevant collegiate experience required; 3+ years of experience highly preferred
Experience with EMR preferred
Standard Work Days and Hours:
This is a onsite, full-time academic year position working Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Frequent evening and weekend hours are required as determined by seasonal activity
There is opportunity for a flexible schedule based upon athletic practice and competition schedules
