The Assistant Learning Specialists will be a critical member within the Strategic Learning Team to assist in the design and implementation of academic support plans for student-athletes. This position will work in collaboration with the Athletic Academic Advisors and the student-athletes. This is an eleven-month commitment with an opportunity for renewal.
Academic Support (50%)
Design and implement individualized education plans for student-athletes with specific learning or academic challenges and/or differences
Work one-on-one with student-athletes to build fundamental academic skills using direct instruction methods and appropriate learning strategies
Collaborate with advisors to design and implement academic success plans for NCAA metrics
Serve as a mentor to the student-athletes
Maintain confidentiality
Communicate with advisors, academic coaches, and content tutors about student-athletes regarding individual learning needs and academic progress (e.g. reports)
Training Development & Coordination (20%)
Develop, prepare and present skill workshops for tutors and academic coaches
Work with the Strategic Learning Team to create learning resources and programs that promote student-athlete engagement, accountability, and academic success
Tutorial Program (20%)
Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and development of tutors and academic coaches
Provide leadership & assist with oversight of programming for the tutors and academic coaches
Work with the Strategic Learning Team to conduct evaluations of the Strategic Learning Team program, tutors, and academic coaches
Assist with scheduling of appointments, including but not limited to tutoring and academic coaching sessions
Other Responsibilities (10%)
Work collaboratively with the Strategic Learning Team to organize and manage data regarding educational evaluations for student-athletes
Attend staff and unit meetings
Communicate with supervisor regarding assigned programmatic tasks and report progress in meetings as appropriate
Learn and adhere to NCAA, Big 12, and Texas Christian University rules and regulations
Other duties as assigned by the Strategic Learning Team

Master’s degree in Education or Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
Hours/week 40 – must be willing to work some irregular hours, nights, and weekends
Two years experience in a post-secondary educational setting
