Department Summary: Located five miles from downtown Boston, Tufts University is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the highly-competitive New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Tufts students participate in 30 varsity sports, 20 club sports and a number of intramural sports. Tufts Athletics has won eleven NCAA team championships since 2010 and has finished in the top 10 of the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup in each of the last eight years, including winning the Director's Cup in 2021-2022 as the top Division III Athletic Department in the nation. Tufts Athletics oversees the Physical Education Department and manages all athletics facilities, including the Steve Tisch Sports & Fitness Center which opened in 2012. The Department of Athletics provides student-athletes a dynamic, transformational experience on and off the field. They experience the joy of personal growth inherent in high level competition, while cultivating lifelong connections with teammates, the Tufts community and the world around us.
Fellowship Summary: The Tufts University Department of Athletics is looking to increase opportunities for underrepresented populations and offers a two-year graduate fellowship for a future leader seeking a career in intercollegiate athletics administration. The successful candidate must be accepted into the two-year Tufts Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Leadership Master’s Degree program.
While pursuing a master’s degree, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to spend a couple months in a variety of different areas within the Department of Athletics and working with Athletics partners around campus. This rotational program will provide the selected individual with a broad understanding of athletics administration and the ability to gain valuable industry experience from multiple supervisors. This experiential learning and exposure to all aspects of collegiate athletics administration will include, but is not limited to: facilities, events, & game operations, fundraising, development & alumni engagement, business operations, compliance, marketing, communications & social media, student affairs, student recreation and club sports.
Tuition/Assistance: The fellowship will cover all graduate tuition for two years and provide a stipend in the amount of $35,200 ($1,600/month for 22 months). Experiential learning will occur in the Department of Athletics for the entirety of the two-year program.
