Under minimal supervision, directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an intercollegiate women’s softball program operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities. Must comply with University, MEAC and NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Must work cooperatively and responsibly with other departmental personnel. Responsible for operating within the budgetary limitation of the program. Must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. Must support, encourage, and monitor student-athlete’s academic progress. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to read, understands, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program. Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty. Knowledge of NCAA I regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Bachelor’s degree required. Present evidence of strong organizational and communication skills and current knowledge of NCAA regulations. Proven successful coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level. NCAA Division I program experience preferred. Proven evidence of commitment to academic excellence including student-athlete graduation. Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with student-athlete s, colleagues, and the public.
