The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is accepting applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director, Office of Academic Excellence. This is a career, full-time position with targeted salary range of $86,900.00 - $125,000.00/year with full health benefits and membership in the UC Retirement Plan. The Associate Athletic Director of the Office of Academic Excellence (OAE) reports directly to the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Academic Excellence and has full functional responsibility for long-range planning, directing and evaluating the academic support services for student-athletes. The incumbent will also manage all facets of the NCAA continuing academic eligibility certification program, and the NCAA Academic Performance Program which includes the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR). This position will supervise the Director of Academic Excellence, Assistant Director for Eligibility Services, Department Learning Specialists and Student-Athlete Success positions for football and both basketballs, along with part-time academic mentoring staff. The Associate Athletic Director will also be responsible for daily interaction and coordination with the Director of Student-Athlete Counseling and the College of Letters & Science counseling and peer learning staffs assigned to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA). Other duties include direct and indirect oversight of the academic mentoring program, student-athlete orientation, student athlete scholar banquet and graduation, summer school, degree completion program, and graduate school and extension partnerships. The position will serve as a liaison between the compliance and counseling staffs, as a liaison with faculty and outside entities, and will develop and monitor the annual budget.

All applicants should demonstrate the following abilities and requirements: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in academic support services for student-athletes; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree preferred; Demonstrate ability to adhere to and comply with UCLA, University of California System, NCAA, Conference and Federation rules and regulations; Demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information/material with discretion; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of University and system-wide administration; Utilize superior public relations skills, including outstanding interpersonal skills to establish and interact effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, student-athletes, coaches, media, parents, donors, Conference, Federation and NCAA officials, politicians, and relevant community members; Demonstrate ability to interact diplomatically and consistently with individuals of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds; Demonstrate communication skills to convey information in a clear, concise manner to small and large groups; Superior proficiency of English grammar, spelling and punctuation sufficient to compose, edit and proofread various documents; Knowledge of Windows-based PC using Microsoft Office and other applications accurately; Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize assignments and work independently to complete assignments despite various deadlines, competing requirements, changing priorities, and stress of interruptions; Ability to perform under stress and maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference or conflict; Capacity to analyze situations and systems, identify problems, and implement solutions impartially and fairly; Ability to make decisions on immediate problems within prescribed scope of authority, based on knowledge of policies and procedures, including pertinent NCAA rules and regulations; Demonstrated record of successful planning, budgeting, financial analysis, and fiscal management, including skills in budget preparation, analysis, and controlling costs; Working knowledge of University purchasing and accounting policies and procedures; Ability to supervise staff, organize workflow, delegate, onboard, train and review work; Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics.
