Summary: Reporting to the Deputy Director of Athletics/Chief of Staff, the Director of Equipment Operations oversees the maintenance and inventory of athletic equipment for all the University's NCAA intercollegiate athletic sports programs. The Director of Equipment Operations will understand and embrace the academic and Christian mission of Charleston Southern University, including the role that Athletics serves to support that mission.
Work Performed: Oversees the coordination of day-to-day sports activities and the maintenance of sports facilities athletic equipment. Coordinates with head coaches and representatives to determine sport needs then generates purchase orders to acquire athletic and sports equipment. Establishes, maintains, and reconciles uniform and equipment inventories, and oversees the maintenance of all inventory records for the program, ensuring that all departments are aware of any issues. Oversees uniform and equipment distribution and retrieval at practices and on game day. Oversees and coordinates all game day equipment preparations and setup for games. Ensures that all uniforms and related apparel and equipment are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition. Oversees and coordinates the work of athletic equipment staff and/or students engaged in the day-to-day performance of related activities. Drives and schedules assistance for the football equipment truck for away games.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience: Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of athletic, mechanical, and electronic equipment, supplies, and/or uniform repair. Records maintenance skills. Knowledge of university accounting procedures involving procurement, travel, and/or employment. Organizing and coordinating skills. Ability to lead, train, and functionally supervise staff and/or student employees. Compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position.
Essential Job Functions: Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Will be required to drive cars and/or trucks for the purpose of equipment support for programs. Nights and weekend work required as needed.
