The Senior Associate AD for External Strategy serves as a member of the Director of Athletics and Recreation’s leadership team. Reporting to the Senior Deputy AD and Chief Operating Officer, this position provides day-to-day leadership, oversight, direction and guidance for revenue generation, strategic communication, and brand management in the department. Areas of operations include marketing & fan engagement, ticketing sales & operations, athletics communications, live events & broadcasts, and creative content. This position will work closely with corporate partnerships (Learfield) as well as central college advancement and licensing staff. This position will ensure the implementation of a comprehensive external strategic vision, helping to create an extraordinary Division I student-athlete and fan experience.
Administration – 40%
Provide the leadership and oversight necessary to ensure effective collaboration and the integration of services among all cross-functional areas (i.e., external strategy units, including the advancement office).
Provide the leadership and oversight necessary to ensure a strong culture of extraordinary customer service and a student-athlete first mentality throughout all departments.
Evaluate all external strategy efforts, utilizing and/or developing a mechanism for capturing available data analytics to create desired outcomes consistent with the strategic vision.
Serve as the Athletics Department’s brand steward and provide the strategic direction and leadership necessary to ensure adherence to brand standards and visual identity.
Manage and oversee the financial budget for all external strategy areas.
Support and develop area leaders and staff to advance external strategy (ex. establish and execute regular meetings, as well as annual performance reviews).
Serve as a key strategic advisor to the Sr. Deputy AD/COO and Director of Athletics and Recreation on public relations, media relations and brand management.
Revenue Generation – 30%
Lead, direct and oversee marketing/fan engagement and ticketing operations/sales to create a best-in-class fan experience and increase revenue generation in specific and measurable ways year-over-year.
Develop and implement innovative sales strategies, including but not limited to season, single-game, premium, group, etc.
Evaluate and establish best practices for the revenue generation related to merchandise in online stores and/or physical stores.
Manage the relationship with the designated third-party Corporate Partner (i.e., Learfield) to maximize assets and inventory available for market and ensure accountability and standards of fulfillment of corporate partnership accounts.
Provide oversight for brand and communications strategy, accuracy, and content on the official athletics website (ex. Set the vision and look for annual creative content.)
Responsible for implementing internal and external communications strategies to promote 35 varsity sports and ensuring that the department maintains a consistent visual identity across all public facets, including print, web, apparel, uniforms, equipment, and signage.
Engage in ongoing evaluation of Live Video Production strategy across all aspects of the athletics department.
