Summary Position Campus Recreation & Wellness contributes to the holistic well-being of students, faculty, and staff by providing access to recreational and educational experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging, and empowering individuals to cultivate positive wellness values and behaviors that last throughout and beyond their time at Elon. The athletic trainer is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and provides athletic training services to students in the club sports and performing arts programs. This position provides an athletic trainer with the opportunity to find balance and support in a dynamic workplace that values teamwork, professional development, and well-being.

General Purpose of Position The athletic trainer is an essential member of the Campus Recreation & Wellness professional team and provides athletic training services to students in the club sports and performing arts programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide athletic training services to students involved in club sports and performing arts through prevention, immediate care, recognition, evaluation, rehabilitation, reconditioning, and referral of orthopedic and general medical injuries and illnesses
Provide on-site athletic training services for high/medium risk club sports games, performing arts events, and some university events
Coordinate concussion baseline testing for medium/high risk club sports and relevant performing arts students
Coordinate basic pre-participation exams for incoming club sports participants and performing arts students, as necessary
Provide immediate care (care of severe and non-severe acute injuries; immobilization, splinting; emergency care of cardiorespiratory conditions), as well as treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning during scheduled office hours
Recognize and evaluate injuries and refer to appropriate medical personnel
Provide injury prevention, concussion management, and other education to students, faculty, staff, and parents
Maintain appropriate clinical case notes for all patients
Work collaboratively with colleagues in Campus Recreation & Wellness and the Division of Student Life to provide quality recreational and developmental experiences for students
Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities
Foster positive relationships on and off campus to promote Campus Recreation & Wellness
Regularly assess processes and procedures to improve overall service quality
Serve on departmental, divisional, and institutional committees and work groups as assigned
Assist in the development and implementation of the Campus Recreation & Wellness strategic plan and departmental/divisional/institutional priorities
Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns
Includes evening and weekend work requirements
Other duties and projects as assigned
Education and Experience Required qualifications include:
Master’s degree in sports medicine, athletic training, or related field
Certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer
National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) member
License from the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience as an athletic trainer in a collegiate recreation setting
Instructor certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
