Position Description: The primary role of this position will be to assist with event staffing and operations for all home intercollegiate athletic events. The secondary role will be to work in the athletic communications office to fulfill various tasks and special events throughout the year. This position is part-time.
Responsibilities: This individual will have a dual report to the Coordinator of Athletics Communications and the Coordinator of Athletics Events. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following duties.
Events 1.Help coordinate set up, take down, and supervision of intercollegiate events. 2.Assist with the scheduling of event management staff, including student workers and contracted workers. 3.Coordinate training sessions for event staff so they can successfully perform event management roles. 4.Communicate with visiting teams prior to competition informing them of all event details and logistics. 5.Meet and greet opposing teams, officials, and event staff and offer great hospitality and service. 6.Help monitor all facets of event operations and fill in where needed to ensure smooth operations. 7.Plan entertainment and/or promotional activities for home events to help attract and engage fans. 8.Coordinate the purchase and selling of food and beverages for concessions at home athletic events. 9.Help oversee all financials related to admissions and concessions including payments and deposits.
Communications 1.Help maintain Viterbo athletics website by updating rosters, schedules, scores, records, events, etc. 2.Write event recaps, special interest stories, and athletics news stories. 3.Maintain and expand Viterbo Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Tik Tok social media presence. 4.Help facilitate set up and maintenance of the live streams for all home athletic events. 5.Assist with recording live statistical data using designated software during home athletics. 6.Distribute statistics and post-event information to teams, media, and opposing sports information offices. 7.Take photos and/or video clips at home events to promote student-athletes and add visuals to event recap. 8.Assist with preparing department reports by helping retrieve and compile data. 9.Work collaboratively with University communications office to help promote our athletic teams.
Qualifications: Background in event management and communications desired. Understanding and commitment to Catholic and Franciscan values; demonstrated knowledge and experience with the duties of the position including good written, oral, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office applications; demonstrated reliability and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; willingness to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
Master’s Degree Tuition Waiver: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and must be accepted into Viterbo University graduate school. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to serve a two-year graduate assistantship which includes a tuition waiver to enroll in either the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program or the Master of Arts in Servant Leadership (MASL) program. This position is eligible for tuition remission benefit during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The desired start date is August 1, 2023.
Financial Stipend: This position will include an annual stipend of $4,000.
