12-month appointment, a full tuition waiver, and a parking pass. The student is responsible for activity fees and books. Graduate Assistants are responsible for an average of 20 work hours per week.

Grand Valley State University Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management is seeking a Fieldhouse and Recreation Center Graduate Assistant (1 position) for the 2023-2024 academic year. This is typically a two-year position based on academic requirements and successful evaluation after the first year of employment.
Responsibilities:
Supervisory Responsibilities – Recreation Center:
Assist the Facility & Group Coordinator in overseeing approximately 60 part-time student employees, including Facility Attendants and Student Building Supervisors. Utilize conflict resolution skills to maintain a fair, equitable, and agreeable work environment for all students and employees.
Assist in the creation and maintenance of semester staff schedules using online scheduling software (Humanity) to ensure the entire facility has coverage and assume responsibility for filling in when necessary.
Lead student staff audit program each semester and evaluate training needs. Prioritize and actively contribute to staff recognition and student development. Support and enforce policies and expectations to student staff through the Athletic and Recreation Facilities Management Student Staff Disciplinary System procedures. Facilitate monthly professional development training and monthly meetings for facility operations student staff.
Maintain RecStar incentive program (employee of the month program) and implementation of other student appreciation incentives such as Student Employee Appreciation Week, Staff Shout-outs, and semesterly staff celebrations. Actively support and contribute to developing a culture of belonging and inclusion. Complete semesterly facility audits and submit work orders for the Recreation Center, Fieldhouse, and outdoor athletic fields.
Implement risk management procedures and assist in maintaining proper upkeep of facility safety requirements.
Event & Program Management:
Assist Facility & Group Coordinator in planning, setup, and taking down of special events. Work as a lead student employee during various events hosted in the Recreation Center and Fieldhouse, including school group rentals and Overnighter events.
Other Miscellaneous Duties:
Ensure student staff adhere to the risk management plan and maintain required current certifications through American Red Cross. Assist additional Athletic & Recreation Facilities Management Graduate Assistants (Kelly Family Sports Center and Game Operations) in planning and executing yearly All Staff Training.
Assist additional Athletic & Recreation Facilities Management Graduate Assistants (Kelly Family Sports Center and Game Operations) with the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Other duties as assigned.
Completed Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Admission to a Master’s degree program at Grand Valley State University
Experience in recreation, education, and sports preferred
Supervisory experience and some business experience are preferred
Must have or obtain within 30 days American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certification
Must have or obtain within 60 days American Red Cross CPR/AED Professional Rescuer and First Aid Instructor Certification
