Edward Waters University is seeking a highly-motivated individual to serve as a Men's Basketball Coach in a full-time capacity. Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President & Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, the coach will provide comprehensive instruction and leadership to the student-athletes and develops a competitive program within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). The coach will be responsible for recruiting student-athletes to participate at the Division II level, managing an operational budget, planning practices, and matches, monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes, and maintaining compliance with all NCAA Division II and SIAC guidelines and regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coach student-athletes, which includes training & evaluating their performance in both practice and competition, teaching fundamental techniques, and providing leadership and instruction;
Implement a successful recruiting strategy to attract outstanding student-athletes to attend EWU while remaining in full compliance with all NCAA and SIAC rules, as well as departmental and university policies and procedures;
Develop and implement all aspects of pre-season, in-season, post-season, and off-season conditioning;
Process all necessary EWU documents and ensure administrative duties are carried out within deadlines;
Maintain standards of performance consistent with departmental academic and athletic expectations as reflected in the EWU mission statement, goals, objectives, departmental guidelines, and performance appraisal procedures;
Coordinate and implement with the compliance officer eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations, proper administration of financial aid for both prospective and enrolled student-athletes, facilities scheduling, and contest administration and game operations as necessary;
Maintain team discipline and moral standards at all times and on special assignments;
Adhere to NCAA and SIAC sports rules, conference bylaws, compliance regulations, and conference recruiting rules and policies;
Report all NCAA and SIAC Conference violations to the proper personnel;
Monitor student-athlete's academic progress through classroom checks, study hall, and progress reports;
Support institutional compliance and academic programs, and maintain athletic and academic records;
Instruct student-athletes in the areas of physical health, team concepts, and safety; designs instructions for individual or team needs;
Maintain the coordination, development, and supervision of the basketball program, summer camps, and clinics;
Engage in, coordinate, and help implement all fund-raising activities for the program in conjunction with the Associate Vice President & Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and athletic representatives;
Represent the university at professional meetings, alumni gatherings, campus activities, and civic affairs as requested by athletic administrators;
Attend and participate in department and staff meetings as requested/required;
Encourage an effective outreach program with student-athletes that provide benefit to the on and off-campus community;
Maintain, as appropriate, effective relationships with parents, alumni, friends of the program, and others toward the positive image and promotion of the program;
Evening and weekend work is required; and
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university;
Experience in higher education and career development;
Five years of proven successful coaching experience in basketball;
Excellent written and oral communication skills; and

Buttressed by a recent period of phenomenal transformation, Edward Waters University’s enrollment has skyrocketed by 19.1% since 2019 having welcomed its largest ever class of new students (540) and achieving its highest enrollment (over 1100) in nearly two decades last fall (2021). EWU’s recent remarkable growth has made it the fastest growing college or university in Jacksonville and the fastest growing historically black college or university (HBCU) in the State of Florida per published reports.
The historic university offers a total of six bachelor degree programs including Business Administration, Biology, Criminal Justice, Mass Communication, Psychology, and Forensic Science as well as a new 100% online Master of Business Administration (MBA) and new Master of Education Policy and Advocacy (MEPA) graduate degree program. The university also offers a distinguished accelerated, non-traditional adult degree program (CLIMB - Credentials for Leadership in Management and Business) and is a member institution of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and is proud of its founding progeny and continuing tradition in the African-Methodist Episcopal (AME) church.
Additionally, EWU currently holds NCAA Division II membership (second year provisional of three) competing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and as of September 1, 2022 is eligible for SIAC conference post season competition in all eleven sports in which it competes athletically including football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s volleyball, cross country, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, women’s soccer, competitive cheerleading, and women’s golf.
Notably, in just the past 18 months the university has invested nearly $10,000,00 million dollars in new athletic facility upgrades including a brand new on-campus stadium with field turf for football and soccer; dynamic new basketball/volleyball arena floor, bleachers, a newly installed sixteen-foot video board; upgraded locker rooms; new state-of-the-art on campus fitness and wellness training facility set to open September 2022; and a new stadium sky-box suite debuting in fall 2022.
In addition, construction is currently underway for the renovation and expansion of new campus tennis courts for the establishment of the university’s first varsity tennis program. Potential future plans include the construction of a competition level track and new baseball and softball fields.
