Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III institution located in Ferrum, Virginia, is looking for a motivated, energetic and passionate individual to be our next Head Swimming Coach. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Review of applications will begin immediately.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: The head swimming coach will evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes that will compete at a high level in the classroom and in the pool. The successful candidate will oversee the organization of all team practices, meets, invitations and budgets. This individual will put together a comprehensive recruitment plan for the swimming staff and will ensure a culture of compliance within all NCAA Division III and Ferrum College rules and regulations, and ensure all coaches and student-athletes comply with same. Finally, the successful candidate will serve in administrative capacity as needed and directed by the Director of Athletics.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
•Evaluate, recruit, coach and mentor qualified student-athletes and prepare the team for a full intercollegiate varsity swimming experience. •Oversee all aspects of the swimming program operations, including, but not limited to, the development and management of all team practices, contests, recruitment, academic monitoring, budgets and the supervision of any assistant coaching staff. •Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan, ensuring a robust and competitive roster from the local, regional and national landscape. •Ensure a culture of compliance around all NCAA Division III and Ferrum College rules and regulations and ensure all staff members and student-athletes do the same. •Travel locally, regionally and nationally for all regular-season and post-season events, conference and/or national meetings and fundraising, alumni and community events. •Develop yearly, non-conference, meet and invitational schedules to ensure high-level competition in preparation for conference and NCAA/national competitions. •Oversee student-athlete academic progress, be available for consultation/support for student-athletes and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success. •Select and purchase all equipment necessary to ensure a competitive women’s wrestling program. •Work with Director of Athletics, Associate Director of Athletics on the upkeep of the Pool and all other relevant facilities utilized by the swimming team. •Work closely with Sports Information Director to develop a media plan and be available for interviews and speaking engagements to internal and external constituents. •Serve in administrative capacity, as well as other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education/Experiences: A bachelor’s degree and coaching experience at the collegiate, club or high school level is required. A master’s degree and collegiate playing and coaching experience is preferred.
Licenses: Current and valid driver’s license required.
Other Preferences: The candidate must be able to work independently and have the ability to work occasionally on evenings and weekends throughout the year to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field. The successful candidate must be committed to working and teaching within an environment that embraces the development of students around their education, cultural diversity, mental health awareness and NCAA and ODAC compliance.
