Summary: The Director of Sports Medicine oversees all facets of athletic training services for Montreat College. The Director will serve all sport programs and student-athletes by providing comprehensive healthcare to include preventive and rehabilitative care of injuries. The Director serves as a role model in meeting the complementary goals of the Athletic Department. The integration of Christian faith and character formation are key components to this position. This position also requires staff supervision, practice and game coverage, and the scheduling of athletic event coverage. Managing budgets, web updates, supervision and support of student learning and academic updates while partnering with Montreat College’s nurse and health center. The Director will help lead students towards being positive and contributing members of the community and manage other administrative tasks as assigned. Other roles in the position may be established based on the applicant’s strengths. The Director of Sports Medicine will be responsible for maintaining compliance with all Montreat College, Appalachian Athletic Conference, and NAIA athletic training procedures.
This is a 11-month, full-time staff position.
Supervisor: The Director of Sports Medicine is accountable to the Director of Athletics and the VP of Enrollment Management and Athletics.
Essential Job Functions:

Primary Duties: •Provide health care services for intercollegiate athletes under the direction of licensed physicians, podiatrists, or dentists. •Recognize, evaluate, assess and treat athletic injuries/illnesses or refer to medical professionals/services, to provide immediate or follow-up care. •Lead, motivate and monitor staff. Assign sport oversight to athletic training staff according to interests and strengths. Responsible for year-end staff evaluations. •Provide injury/illness prevention and risk management services for athletes; Provide treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning programs. •Oversee administration of Athletic Training room. This includes determining and monitoring budget, supplies/equipment inventory, facility maintenance, and medical record keeping. •Provide consultation to the athlete and coach regarding injury status, clearance and the ability to participate while maintaining proper confidentiality of the athletes’ medical history. •Educate student-athletes, coaches and staff on latest medical guidelines including but not limited to injury, illness, alcohol and drugs. •Ensure appropriate coverage for practices, home games and travel with teams assigned. •Ensure safety, cleanliness, and security of McAlister Athletic Training Room. •Maintain rehabilitation equipment to include proper code and inspection certificates. •Proper storage and elimination of medical records. •Maintain accurate, complete and precise injury documentation on athletes daily. •Serve as department insurance policy liaison to College insurance provider. •Maintain consistent and reliable attendance. •Conduct and interpret pre-participation and other relevant screening information received from student-athletes, in accordance with accepted guidelines to minimize risk.
Secondary Duties: •Assist with oversight of scheduling of on-campus athletic facilities and public spaces within McAlister Gymnasium and Black Mountain Campus. •Serve on appropriate departmental and campus-wide committees. •Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Education/Requirements A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution is required, but a Master’s degree is preferred. The candidate must affirm and support the Christian faith statement of the institution as well as the Community Life Covenant.
