The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for a Director of Performance Enhancement and Mental Health.
The Director of Performance Enhancement and Mental Health is responsible for providing programming, interventions, education, consultation, and support for coaches and select staff. Emphasis on overall wellness and performance while collaborating with targeted resources to foster sustainably healthy and high-performing coaches, staff, and teams.
The Director of Performance Enhancement and Mental Health will be responsible for the following duties including, but not limited to:
Provide oversight and programming for performance, wellness, and enrichment services within Athletics.
Partner with coaches and staff to increase knowledge and understanding of human behavior and its effect upon mental health.
Teach skills to successfully manage challenges and demonstrate consistently high levels of performance at a Division I institution.
Work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to provide wellness and performance programming, education, consultation, and support.
Ability to identify and collaborate with targeted resources to foster sustainably healthy and high-performing coaches, staff, and teams.
Ability to work with a diverse group of constituencies.
Ability to proactively demonstrate interest and concern for others mental, emotional health and welfare.
Established understanding of factors associated with age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, or socioeconomic status as an essential component for effective implementation of services.
Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to demonstrate clinical skill and competence.
Knowledge of current trends in the incidence and prevalence of mental health concerns as they directly relate to the athletic population.
Knowledge of HIPAA, NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations.
A professional demeanor and ability to maintain poise and effectively interact with others in a positive manner.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Required Qualifications
Education: Master’s Degree
Experience: Two years of post-graduate experience in counseling
Licensure: Currently licensed as a psychologist in the United States, eligible to obtain a Virginia Board of Psychology license, and obtain a state license to practice psychology within one year of employment required.
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Doctorate of Clinical or Counseling Psychology
Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience with Division 1-A coaches and/or student-athletes or coaches and/or athletes with comparable or higher competitive levels.
