The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Women’s Army Rugby Head Coach. This position is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the Women’s Army Rugby (W.A.R.) program to include: •Upholding the teams code of conduct •Team Culture development •Monitoring cadet athletes academic progress •Overseeing the discipline and conduct of the cadet athletes •All general coaching •Recruiting of scholar athletes •Active participation in the W.A.R. Camps and Clinics and all their operational duties •Team scheduling and managing travel •The program’s annual budget •Active participation in fundraising for the program. All the duties of the Assistant Coaches position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules and regulations of USMA, AWPAA, NIRA and the NCAA.
Work Conditions & Physical Requirements
Stand or sit:
35- 40 % of the day is in an office setting that requires a sitting or standing position. The person in this position needs to be able to move about the office to access team equipment, file cabinets, office machinery etc. and lift up to 75lbs. This person will have to consistently operate a computer, printer and phone.
Will be required to complete the following physical tasks:
Set up and take down necessary field equipment, sometimes in extreme weather conditions.
Demonstrate proper rugby techniques that may include physical movement and contact.
Load and unload team equipment for travel by bus, van or airplane
Keep the team’s supplements stocked.
Communicate:
Listen and converse coherently with all members of the AWPAA, NIRA, NCAA, players, game officials,
media, parents and general public
Travel:
Required to be on all away trips, both day and overnight
Off campus recruiting trips local and abroad
Drive to pick up and drop off recruits on official visits from all arrival/departure locations
Drive team support vehicle, and Passenger Vans if needed.
Time Commitment:
Annual Full-time commitment
Must be able to work, nights, weekends and holidays
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required.
Level 300 Coaching Certification
1-3 years coaching experience (collegiate/ club/professional/international) or exceptional playing experience.
Experience with game analytical software (Nacsport/ Sport Code)
Strong understanding of the Rules of both 15’s and 7’s
Strong presentation and communication skills to include game film session reviews
Skill in operation of modern office machines, communication tools, equipment, computers and relevant software
Preferred Qualifications
Strong people skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse settings, both on campus and in the community
Strong understanding of GPS tracking software data and game statistical data
Strong player review skills
Strong Creative skills in the support and development of our Team Culture
Ability to research and resolve problems and questions related to the operations of the W.A.R. program.
Ability to organize workflow and coordinate activities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, change direction quickly and prioritize tasks based on the needs of the program.
Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and written.
Ability to provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of cadet-athletes.
Ability to work with a variety of racial and ethnic groups and under-represented populations.
Ability to commit to the highest professional and ethical standards with staff, faculty and cadets.
Ability to participate in day, evening and weekend commitments, as necessary.
Ability to develop and foster relationships with prospective donors to help grow the programs endowment.
Meet regularly with the Head Coach to review program’s budget status.
