The Assistant Athletics Director - Recreation Services reports to the Associate Athletics Director - Business and Team Services. The Assistant Athletics Director of Recreation Services will work with the department leadership in managing and implementing the Department's comprehensive recreation services program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Athletics Director - Recreation Services will supervise, manage and implement the Department's recreation services program. In this role, he/she will be responsible for coordinating and delivering all programming and services for the University's recreation, intramural, group fitness, and club sports programs. In addition, this position will act as the Department's primary liaison with the University community regarding recreation services. The Assistant Athletics Director - Recreation Services will also work with their supervisor in determining and addressing the University's recreational programming needs.He/She will work closely with the Department's leadership in planning efforts and in the development, coordination, and execution of program policy and procedures for the area of recreation services. In addition, the position will represent the Department in a number of internal operations related to recreation services and will be responsible for supervising those operations, as well as carrying out other administrative functions as assigned.
Job Duties: A. ADMINISTRATION: - establish a student-centered program that considers the needs and interests of all students - expose students to recreational activities that will contribute to an active lifestyle and enhance physical fitness - provide an opportunity to learn new skills - provide an opportunity to participate in sports and recreational activities without regard for high-performance skill or ability - provide activities in a safe and professionally supervised environment - nurture a healthy spirit of competition, sportsmanship, and teamwork - provide an opportunity to participate for enjoyment without external pressure - develop a sense of community within the school - enhance social interaction- manage the annual budget - ensure the ongoing financial analysis and accountability - make decisions regarding expenditures - hire, train, supervise and evaluate part-time coaches, staff; professional staff, interns, and student workers - supervise the marketing and promotion of programs - supervise the development of policies for programs - schedule facility needs with appropriate authorities - order the necessary equipment - arrange for the distribution of equipment to the students and end-of-year inventory and safety evaluation of the equipment - provide direction and leadership for ongoing evaluation of existing programs - coordinate program ideas with the campus student activities and community recreation specialists B. INTRAMURAL SPORTS: - develop program offerings for the year - promote offerings- hire and train officials - hire and train supervisors for the activities - conduct rules meeting for participants - develop the schedule and formats for the tournaments - schedule the facilities - coordinate the use of special equipment with the equipment room personnel - maintain records of participation numbers, winners of championships brackets, etc. for end-of-year report - evaluate program offerings for men, women, and co-recreational activities C. OPEN RECREATION/EDUCATIONAL/FITNESS/ SPECIAL EVENT ACTIVITIES: - develop program offerings for the year in combination with the various constituents on campus and be creative and adventurous with these offerings - coordinate the educational offerings necessary for the participants of these activities D. CLUB SPORTS: - work with the student leaders to set policies for the specific club programs - work with the student leaders to monitor the budget of each club - coordinate the scheduling of contests with the student leaders of the club - coordinate the scheduling of facilities - coordinate the scheduling of transportation - maintain accurate participation records - coordinate the purchase of equipment/uniforms and the inventory and storage of the equipment/uniforms - administer discipline for any misconduct of the club - promote the various club activities E. CAMPUS COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: - develop program offerings for the year in combination with the various constituents on campus and promote these offerings - arrange for any special needs (insurance, transportation, education, etc.) - maintain records of participation numbers - evaluate program offerings
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree is required. Preferred Qualifications: An advanced or professional degree is preferred. 5+ years of professional management experience working in sports, recreation, and/or student affairs-related field(s).
Successful candidates for Assistant Athletics Director - Recreation Services should have experience with management and programming issues concerning the administration of student-focused programming on a college campus. Successful administrative and programming experience within a private liberal arts setting is preferred. In addition, successful candidates should have strong organizational, budgeting, and management skills and demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple assignments effectively. Also, candidates should possess effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience in successfully working with University and athletics staff members and college students is necessary. Previous experience with varsity, intramural, and/or club sports programs would be beneficial. Basic administrative computing skills (e.g., e-mail, word-processing, etc.) are necessary. Physical Demands: 1. Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. 2. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds. Requires standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. 3. Evening and weekend work responsibilities, as needed; be on-call to provide leadership during times programs are operating; other duties as assigned.
Work Type: This is a full-time, year round, benefits eligible position.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
Salary Range: This is a Staff Exempt position with a hiring range of $47,760-59,700 (E07). The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the position's qualifications, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
