BASIC FUNCTION:
The position of Assistant Director of Athletics for NCAA Education and Compliance Services & Student-Athlete Success assists in overseeing the general rules compliance of the Department of Athletics with all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Candidates must be willing and able to organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulations of Hofstra University, the Colonial Athletic Association, and the NCAA.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work with the Associate Director to oversee departmental compliance with NCAA, Colonial Athletics Association, and other conference affiliates to comply with policies and procedures that are put forth.
Coordinate and create compliance rules education sessions with the athletics department staff related University personnel, booster organizations, student-athletes, managers, and coaches.
Assist in all student-athletes eligibility, including initial, continuing, and transfer eligibility status. In addition to eligibility, this position will also oversee all eligibility waivers.
Assist in the filing of waivers, violations, and interpretation requests as necessary.
Monitor day-to-day compliance activities including but not limited to: playing and practice season reports, official and unofficial visits, off campus recruiting, camps and clinics, and other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
Oversee the National Letter of Intent Program for student-athletes.
Develop strong capability in using Navigate retention software and CONNECT for maintaining accurate electronic records on students.
Collaborate with the Faculty Athletics Representative at multiple levels (i.e., Conference, Provost, College, and School).
Coordinate and proctor make-up exams (at the direction of faculty) as assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Academic Success.
Monitor assigned student-athletes academic performance, including class schedules of assigned student-athletes and help to resolve any problems or conflicts; monitor study hall requirements; contribute data for mid-semester grade reports; engage in regular contact with the faculty of student-athletes and members of the Student Success Collaborative.
Assist with NCAA, CAA Conference, and University-wide academic award and recognition nominations for student-athletes as assigned by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Academic Success.
Proactively respond to student, parent, faculty, and coach inquiries. Regularly communicate with student-athletes regarding events and deadlines throughout the academic year and disseminate information to new and continuing students throughout the academic year.
Consult with the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Academic Success and the Dean of CUA regarding any significant or complex student-athlete advising issues.
Serve as liaison to the NCAA office, Colonial Athletic association, and other on campus entities such as admissions, financial aid, and residential life.
Collaborate with Assistant Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Services to organize athletic initiatives on campus (e.g., move in day, service initiatives, women in sports day, etc.).
Serve as sport administrator for programs as assigned.
Maintain the department’s compliance website.
Position requires working weekends and holidays.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience drafting NCAA violations and waivers.
Working knowledge of all NCAA Single Sign-On Applications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (if any)
Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Sports Administration, or related field preferred.
