The University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking a highly professional and experienced candidate for the position of Coordinator I/II, Athletics Communications. The Coordinator of Athletics Communications is responsible for gathering and providing information to the public on specific and assigned men's and women's intercollegiate athletics programs, assists with public relations activities within intercollegiate athletics, and serves as a liaison between intercollegiate athletics and the media. The Incumbent will develop and maintain an effective presence on the web and new media associated with the UAH Athletics department. The Incumbent will assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the management of the department. Duties/ Responsibilities: • Assist the Director of Athletic Communications in the management of the internal administrative functions and daily operations of the Athletics Communications Office. • Ensure that information about the University's intercollegiate athletics programs is available to the public in a timely and effective manner. Assist in the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive program of sports coverage. • Ensure that major special events for student-athletes, a major conference and national event participation by University teams, and other special events reflect positively on the University. • Responsible for handling computer statistics for UAH sporting events. • Oversee statistics and records for all UAH varsity sports. Manage all Conference and National weekly reports and comply with NCAA and Conference rules. • Assists in the development and distribution of various publications for men's and women's sports programs. Serve as a game manager for home athletic events. • Supervise, assign, and direct the work of students, volunteers, and contract personnel. • Complete postgame reports and distribute them to appropriate personnel, including opponents and media. • Abide by and comply with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Conference rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics department. • Keep abreast of trends, maintains knowledge, competency, and professional currency through self-directed professional reading, develop professional contacts with colleagues, and become knowledgeable of and abide by all University, Athletics Department, GSC, and NCAA guidelines, rules, and regulations. • Prepare Conference reports for GSC and WCHA, as well as NCAA, AVCA, and NFCA. • Organize and maintain files for record keeping. • Respond to emails and mail requests for information. • Coordinate game staff, stat crews, announcers, and music. • Respond to emails and mail requests for information. • Coordinate game staff, stat crews, announcers, and music.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience. 1-3 years of work experience in Sports Management, Media Relations, or Broadcasting. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have experience managing websites. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Previous supervisory experience is required. A Master's degree and experience in athletic administration are preferred. The approximate starting salary for this position is $37,000 - $42,000 with an excellent benefits package.
