The head volleyball coach will be responsible for recruiting student-athletes who are academically excellent and represent the core values of the university. This person will be responsible for scheduling all volleyball matches. They will work with other coaches in scheduling practice time in gyms that accommodate more than one sport. They will represent the university at all Gulf South Athletic Conference and NCAA DII volleyball meetings. They will abide by all Gulf South Athletic Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. They will monitor each player’s academic progress. The coach will also be responsible for the team’s involvement in the community and other mission emphases that the athletic department may be involved in.
Instruct student-athletes about the skills and execution needed to perform the sport of volleyball competitively, safely, and effectively. Recruit team members by understanding the productivity of a balanced team, knowing how to recognize athletic ability, and attracting players that are academically excellent and represent the core values of the university. Maintain all supplies and equipment, prepare and clean the court before and after games. Schedule and attend all games and practices. Manage the volleyball team budget. Provide support and advice to the assistant coaches and helpers within the coaching team. Instruct all team members about the rules, strategies, and techniques of volleyball to prepare them for competition. Contribute to a positive work climate and team effort within the school, as well as demonstrate positive sportsmanship in everyday situations. Ensure that all matters related to the team’s student-athletes adhere to NCAA rules and regulations as defined in the NCAA Division II Manual. Apply Christian standards and attitudes in relationships among cohorts, faculty, staff, and students. Adjust coaching techniques, based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams to develop game strategies. Make sure that all student-athletes understand NCAA and GSC rules and compliance standards. Represent the university at all Gulf South Athletic Conference and NCAA DII volleyball meetings. Lead the volleyball team in mission activities in the community and other places as requested.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree. This position requires knowledge of intercollegiate volleyball, scheduling, and practice organization.
