Missouri Western State University, located in St. Joseph, Missouri, just 45 minutes north of Kansas City seeks applicants for a Part-time Assistant Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach (Throws). The Assistant coach is responsible for assisting the Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach with all facets of conducting successful men’s and women’s track and field programs.
Responsible for technical training for the throwing events.
Develop student-athlete skills and provide coaching.
Plan and manage practice sessions.
Recruit potential student-athletes, coordinating campus visits and the signing of student-athletes.
Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student-athletes.
Monitor the mental and physical health of student-athletes.
Participate in fundraising and community engagement activities.
Perform administrative duties as assigned.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport.
Knowledge of the specific skills required for throwing events.
Ability to coach student-athletes.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree.
Candidate should have coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level and experience coaching throwing events.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Regular travel is required.
Regular nighttime and weekend work is required.
Preferred: Prior training on CPR/First Aid is preferred.
