Houghton University, a Christian Liberal Arts College located in Western New York, seeks applicants for the position of Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is a new position at the University. Houghton, as members of the NCAA Division III, participates in the Empire 8 Conference. This is a 10-month full-time position.
Duties and Responsibilities (Strength and Conditioning): • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for all intercollegiate athletic programs. • Work in cooperation with the sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes. • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff. • Design and implement policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program. • Conduct an annual needs-analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach at the conclusion of each sport season.
Duties and Responsibilities (Assistant Athletic Trainer):
• Provide daily injury prevention, on-site evaluation and treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes as directed by the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physician(s). • Assist with the compilation, input, and organization of daily medical records. • Be on-site for scheduled team practices and home competitions as necessary. • Periodically meet with selected coaching personnel to identify problem areas and to establish treatment goals. • Assist with the enforcement of the Athletic Training Room code of conduct and rules and regulations for the use of the athletic training facilities and equipment. • Share in the responsibility of athletic training room maintenance and upkeep. • Share in the responsibility of maintaining and organizing the athletic training room file system, including medical records and pre-participation paperwork. • Report the status of injured student-athletes to the coaching staff as directed and to the Head Athletic Trainer when further medical attention is necessary. • Complete annual end-of-season athletic training treatment reports for student- athlete’s files. • Determine a student-athlete’s ability to practice and/or compete in competition in consultation with the Team Physician(s). • Represent Houghton College and the profession of Athletic Training at the college, conference, and/or national meetings as required or requested. • Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols. • Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
