Position Title:Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications and Operations
Reports To:Director of Athletics and Recreation
Supervises:Part-Time Staff, Federal Work Study Students, Interns, Game Day Staff
Position Summary:The Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications and Operations is responsible for providing up-to-date and relevant information to the conference and national offices, opponents, public, and news outlets in regards to the athletics department. They also will oversee home game operations at on- and off-campus venues, ensuring adequate staffing and that contests are successfully run.
Experience Required:Minimum of three to five years experience in collegiate athletics communications
Special Working Conditions:Required to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Skills, Characteristics Required for Position:
Ability to administer components of sports information/athletic communications work (i.e., statistics, media relations, web site management, graphical & print design, video streaming and editing) with extensive knowledge of computer systems;
Strong writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision;
Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees);
Ability to train student workers to aid in meeting athletic communication needs;
Respond to media and information inquiries from the Skyline Conference, NCAA, opponents, and media outlets;
Manage the Athletic Department website with pertinent information regarding teams and game schedules;
Design, create, and coordinate the production of graphical, video, and print content
Execute the live video stream of home contests and assist with the video exchange for the conference;
Serve as Sport Supervisor for assigned sports providing oversight to ensure consistency with the overall missions, goals, and objectives of the University;
Develop, plan and execute marketing and promotional strategies with the Director of Athletics;
Liaise with the University’s Marketing and Communications Office, preparing special interest stories and features that relate to the St. Joseph’s community;
Manage the department’s social media accounts (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and develop strategies to expand reach and enhance recruiting;
Provide timely post-game recap stories;
Hire, train, and schedule event staff for home contests;
Submit candidates for sport-specific and academic awards;
Plan and assist with annual department year-end awards banquet;
Maintain fiscal responsibility within a budget;
Possess a consistent and reliable attendance record.
Coordinate media day photoshoots and photography of select contests and special events;
Maintain sports information files and historical record books and archives;
Serve on appropriate department and campus committees.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
