The Manager for Athletic Communications promotes and supports the College’s Athletics Department through a variety of media efforts. The Manager is responsible for updating the College’s official Athletics web site; establishing contact with local media; maintaining up-to-date results, statistics, and records; creating marketing media for promoting events; writing feature stories and other content for online and print outlets; providing game management staffing; announcing contests; serving as a liaison between the media and the College athletics community; and reporting to the NJCAA and MD JUCO offices.
Other duties include keeping computer stats at games; writing game and event summaries for all sports; managing music operations at contests; cooperating with game officials; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This is an exempt, professional staff position.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.
A bachelor’s degree and one to three years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, sports information, and game operations are required. Other requirements include excellent writing and communication skills; familiarity with intercollegiate athletics and recreation programs; the ability to compile and interpret statistics and develop statistical reports; excellent writing and communication skills; proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment and familiarity with posting on social media; and excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate the ability to coordinate several ongoing projects and work independently and as part of a team. The ability to work a flexible schedule is also required. Knowledge of NJCAA and JUCO rules and regulations is preferred.
