SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Academic Support/Director of Tutorial Support and Disability Services Coordinator acts as primary advisor, facilitator, and academic support person for assigned student-athletes from matriculation through graduation. This individual will monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and teams, implement appropriate academic intervention strategies, track continuing eligibility requirements established by the NCAA, conference, and the university, communicate consistently with coaches and staff, and assist in recruitment activities. As Director of Tutorial Support and Disability Services Coordinator, this individual must be competent with program development and evaluation as they will hire, train, and manage tutors/university writing consultants as well as coordinate departmental support for student-athletes diagnosed with learning disabilities. This individual must be a team-oriented leader, able to interact with student-athletes in groups and one-to-one settings, and embody university principles of equity and inclusivity. In all capacities, this individual must exhibit the highest levels of professionalism and integrity while working within the framework of all university policies and NCAA rules.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Associate Director of Academic Support for Student-Athletes
-Provides direct academic support services for student-athletes (i.e., tutors, study skill sessions, academic advising, career development, student-athlete recognition programs, budgetary decisions.)
-Acts as primary administrator for all academic and student-related issues involving assigned sports
-Advises student-athletes about course selection to ensure NCAA Progress Towards Degree Requirements are met and monitor academic progress throughout each term
-Serves as academic advisor for the majority of student-athletes without declared majors, while providing academic guidance for all other student-athletes in conjunction with faculty advisors
-Works closely with academic units and advisors to monitor progress towards degree completion in pursuit of graduation for assigned student-athletes and sports
-Advise student-athletes on time management, reading and writing development, and application of learning strategies/study skills
-Communicates with coaching staffs about student-athletes’ academic/eligibility concerns
-Assists with the Study Hall program for student-athletes, including tracking student-athletes in study hall as well as managing study hall monitors
-Distributes, collects, and evaluates progress reports for student-athletes
-Disseminates academic information to prospective student-athletes, assist in on-campus recruiting of prospective student-athletes, and meet with their families
-Develops and support departmental programming efforts to augment student athlete development
Director of Tutorial Support and Disability Services Coordinator
-Develops, enhances, and administers tutor program that serves all student-athletes within a framework of integrity and professionalism
-Coordinates efforts with the Writing Center to hire university-trained writing consultants
-Recruits, hires, trains, and manages tutors/university writing consultants that includes scheduling and budget oversight
-Serves as liaison with the Office of Disability Services and coordinate the exchange of pertinent assessments between that office and student-athletes seeking approved services
-Reviews learning assessments and recommended accommodations to assist with implementation of appropriate academic intervention strategies for student-athletes with diagnosed learning disabilities
-Communicates with departmental staff and colleagues about best practices for working with student-athletes with learning disabilities
Supervise Support Personnel
-Recruits, trains, and supervises academic support personnel (tutors/writing consultants) for student-athletes
-Supervises study hall monitors, academic aides, and graduate student interns
-Works closely with Human Resources and Student Employment to manage hiring processes
-Works closely with Associate AD for Academics to manage budget for support personnel
Liaison/Cross-Campus Responsibilities
-Liaison to with departments across campus to support student success.
-Communicate with NCAA Certifying Officer in the Registrar’s Office to determine eligibility status for student-athletes with demonstrated/documented learning disabilities and acceptable university curriculum substitutions
-Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD/Academics
QUALIFICATIONS:
-Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information effectively to groups and communicate effectively with an expansive student body and wide range of constituencies
-Must have the ability to perform accurate detail-oriented work
-Must have the ability to work with new technology to enhance job performance
-A demonstrated understanding of the University’s academic structures and processes
-Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a commitment to integrity
-Analytical and decision-making skills necessary to interpret and apply complex NCAA rules and regulations to ever-shifting academic scenarios are required
-Ability to train and educate support personnel about NCAA compliance standards
-Knowledge of University, College, and Department academic rules and regulations
-Adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required
WORK HOURS:
Full-time, exempt position
Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hours a day; 38.75 hours per week
Evening/weekend work expected with occasional early morning meetings (prior to 8:00 a.m.)
SALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $37,944.00 to $50,275.00 annually)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
-Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Education or Special Education, Student Affairs, and Higher Education, Counseling, or a closely related field. Master’s Degree preferred
-Minimum 2-4 years working with student-athletes and/or college students
