The Rutgers University Foundation (RUF) seeks an entrepreneurial, creative, ambitious, and results-driven individual to serve as its next Sr. Director / Director of Athletics Development (DOD). The next DOD will be joining the University and the Scarlet Knights at an exciting time in Rutgers’ growth in the BIG10 Conference. With a $2 billion-plus comprehensive University-wide campaign currently in planning phase, the DOD will be expected to take a lead fundraising role in athletics, and work collaboratively with Foundation and University leadership to take athletic revenues and philanthropic support to new heights.
The DOD will perform the exciting and challenging work of implementing and coordinating with their colleagues a comprehensive fundraising program designed to identify, cultivate and solicit annual, major and planned gifts to meet the objectives and strategies of RUF and Rutgers Athletics. The ideal candidate will have a track record of personal fundraising success in athletic development, evidenced by four, five, six and potentially seven figure gift closures as well as experience in short- and long-term planning for ongoing philanthropic support. The DOD must embody an energetic and can-do disposition, a tireless focus on achieving aggressive goals and the skills to support a fundraising savvy Athletics Director and Head Coaches who relish in donor contact and engagement. Rutgers Athletics and RUF embrace collegiality, transparency, a strong work ethic and an intention towards collaboration; the next DOD is expected to embody the same values. Travel is expected in this role, as is the commitment to attending weekend sports events and evening donor events as needed. Essential Functions
Manage a portfolio of 150 major gift ($25,000+) prospective donors, with independent responsibility to develop and execute strategies leading to successful Implement and coordinate of a comprehensive fundraising program established for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts/donations for Rutgers Athletics Work closely with the VP of Athletics Development in raising funds for a variety of athletics campaigns and initiatives Work closely with head coaches and senior sport administrators to identify and prioritize funding opportunities within Rutgers Athletics Establish a resource network in the community to identify and cultivate donor prospects, including working with volunteers, faculty, and development staff to identify ability, and interest areas of major gift prospects Foster an environment for successful fundraising in Rutgers Athletics by providing on-going information for athletic leadership and administration regarding fundraising initiatives and by preparing coaches and administrators to participate effectively in cultivation and solicitation activities Develop, plan, and supervise the production of materials used to communicate with fundraising related constituencies Work legislative relations, economic development relations and with corporate government relations representatives for matters related to the Rutgers Athletics when designated by the VP of Athletics Development Plan and stage arrangements for fundraising events for Rutgers Athletics, to include but not limited to, dedications and special receptions, as assigned Work on the recruitment, organization and training of volunteers to raise funds on behalf of Rutgers Athletics Coordinate special projects as assigned Perform other administrative duties as assigned Work with sports and coaches to implement a sport specific fundraising program Responsible for meeting minimum face-to-face visits annually and making a minimum of solicitations above $25,000 annually Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions
This position requires little physical effort. Will work evenings, weekends, or odd hours to meet resource-raising commitments. Typical working conditions with an absence of disagreeable elements. This position requires some early mornings and late evenings to accommodate meetings, travel, events, and external constituent’s schedules.
Working Equipment This position requires a laptop, corporate credit card and a mobile communication device (at $40 level of reimbursement)

Education/ Qualifications – for the Sr. Director of Development
Bachelor’s degree and 7-9 years of successful professional development/fundraising and/or college athletics related experience, preferably in higher education: OR any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved. Master’s degree preferred.
