The Assistant Director of Digital Strategy will assist in the ideation and execution of web design, graphic design, video production, social media and other digital and online projects towards the goal of generating incremental revenue and enhancing fan engagement and affinity.
Conduct or oversee the development and production of editorial content and strategies that serve to advance the UW Athletics brand and achieve public relations objectives.
Develop, plan and implement creative brand awareness and publicity efforts for the department. Participate in web strategy development. Experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social and emerging media toward generating value for the department of athletics. Monitor trends in emerging media and appropriately apply that knowledge toward the department’s increased value through usage of social and emerging media. Strategize with and educate athletics staff members and sport contacts on incorporating relevant social media techniques into their culture and into all of their marketing and promotional efforts. Measure the impact of social media on the overall marketing efforts. Work to coordinate editorial production efforts throughout the department and individual sport programs to achieve consistency and resource efficiency. Maintain a high level of professionalism and composure in creating social media content and interacting with followers of the department’s social media properties. Assist in the production of graphical elements.
Digital and Multi-Media:
Locate and pursue content opportunities and support the department’s online presence including the UW Athletics’ website, digital-only media outlets, etc. Develop, manage and maintain the department's digital photography needs and archives, and work with freelance staff at allocated Husky events. Execute online revenue-generating projects through digital campaigns. Assist in the creation of custom microsites and web experiences that promote UW Athletics events or strategic initiatives.
Additionally, the position will serve as the communications contact and manage all day-to-day communication efforts for assigned sport program(s) including, but not limited to: working closely with local and national media to promote the program(s), coordinating media interviews, executing all digital and web content to promote the assigned program(s) and increase fan engagement.
Supervise a team of student interns who will assist with execution of the multi-media strategy.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. The overall responsibility of this position is for the successful operation of the program in full compliance with all such rules and regulations. As a condition of employment, the Employee shall be required to participate in rules education programs offered by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field and two years of experience in sports marketing, promotion and/or web development. Experience in video, social media tools and techniques, experience in marketing (traditional, new media, guerilla and ‘word of mouth’), marketing strategy, press and analyst relations, business development, technology, operations, sales, financial and quantitative analysis and project management strongly desired.
Some travel and weekend hours required. Deadlines and events may also require this position to work irregular work weeks.
Deep and developed knowledge of college athletics and NCAA regulations. A knowledge of and passion for social media.
