Position Summary: The Head Coach will develop, implement and manage the overall day-to-day operations of the all the men's and women's running programs including cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field.
Responsibilities include teaching skills and strategies during practice and meets throughout three seasons, recruitment, budget management, supervision and mentoring of student-athletes, etc.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Associate Vice President of Athletics and Student Wellness
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervision over professional, subordinate classified, and student personnel assigned to the area.
This position is an exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties: • Oversee and coordinate the day to day operations of the men’s and women’s cross country teams and the indoor and outdoor track & field teams, including teaching skills and strategies for the specific sport during practice and games in the traditional and non-traditional seasons. • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to a continue the growth of a highly competitive team. • Assess skills and instruct student-athletes on technique. This position is responsible for all areas of team performance. • Monitor and oversee the academic development of cross country and track & field student-athletes, ensuring academic progress to graduation. • Organize and direct a comprehensive student-athlete support program including promotion of the program, leadership development and student-athlete motivation through programs such as BearUP! and SAAC. • Coordinate team logistics with Athletic Department staff and other support personnel such as managers, scorekeepers, etc. • Hire, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches. • In collaboration with athletic training and strength & conditioning staffs, develop and educate an understanding of proper sports nutrition, personal health and safe strength development. • Create a positive and healthy team culture that encourages learning and development. • Assist in the planning and implementation of home meet events, including conference championships. • Organize and direct team-specific fundraising initiatives as well as support program-wide fundraising initiatives such as the Crimson Pride Challenge and the Crimson Pride Classic Golf Tournament. • Develop and implement a team-specific community service and learning initiatives. • Adhere to and support all rules, conditions and regulations as set forth by Bridgewater State University, Conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association pertaining to all aspects of the team’s management. • Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity /Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree and 1-2 years of related experience.
2-3 years of coaching on the high school or college level
Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test for Coaches by the 2nd full week of the playing and practice season
Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences (i.e., students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, administration and community)
Ability to determine appropriate courses of action and utilize proper techniques to ensure accountability with team recruiting goals.
Ability to organize, prioritize, administer, and supervise multiple tasks and programs simultaneously within a collegiate athletic department.
Ability to create and execute policies and procedures for enhanced institutional control consistent with NCAA, University, and Conference governance.
Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as playing and practice season schedule dictates
Ability to lift 25 lbs. with appropriate accommodation
Master’s degree in related field and 3-5 years of successful coaching on the college level
Experience with Word, Excel and Publisher
Current certification in First Aid / CPR (AED)
Experience with FrontRush recruiting software.
Familiarity with student information software networks such as BANNER, COLLEAGUE, etc.
Valid U.S. driver’s license
