Coaching/Mentoring – 50% •Plans, organizes, and conducts individual and team practices, training and competitions; •Teaches and implements skills and strategies. Sets and communicates appropriate goals and expectations for individuals and team; •Maintains team discipline and the highest standards of ethics and sportsmanship. •Meets competitive goals for program; •Demonstrates a sincere interest in the academic, personal, and physical welfare of each student-athlete; counsel team members and consult with appropriate College staff as necessary for resolution of issues; •Proactively and consistently addresses the abuse of drugs and alcohol and works with college officials in implementing alcohol and drug awareness programs; •Contributes positively to the goals of the College and educational experience of student-athletes;

Recruiting – 25% •Works closely with Deputy Director of Athletics to coordinate recruitment activity; •Communicates frequently and effectively with admissions representatives; •Develops and implements an overall recruiting plan, including, but not limited to: identifying qualified student and talented athletes, building and maintaining prospect database, communicating with prospects by phone, mail, e-mail, traveling to evaluate prospects, meet parents and high school coaches, and organizing campus visits; •Maintains knowledge of the College’s programs and opportunities to effectively inform prospects; •Contributes to the recruitment goals of the College;

Administration – 10% •Knows and complies with the rules and regulations of the NCAA and Ivy League, and work to stay abreast of rule changes, applications, and interpretations; •Actively seeks to ensure that staff members, athletes, and athletics representatives are informed of and comply with NCAA and Ivy League rules; •Develops and maintains positive working relationships; •Trains, supervises, and evaluates assistant coaches; •Delegates coaching, recruiting, and administrative responsibilities to assistant coach(es) and administrative assistant; •Coordinates the search for and hiring of assistant coaches; •Oversees all aspects of the financial management of the lightweight rowing program; •Prepare budget recommendations (allocated and Friend’s); •Plans, monitors, verifies, and reconciles expenditure of all funds Works with travel coordinator to make arrangements for competition, recruiting and professional travel; •Works with the Senior Associate Athletic Director to develop an appropriate competition schedule; •Works cooperatively and effectively with numerous support areas and personnel: facilities and operations, business office, sports information, marketing and promotions, athletic trainers, equipment staff, strength and conditioning;

Alumni and Public Relations – 10% •Represents Dartmouth, the athletic department, and the lightweight rowing program in a positive manner to various internal and external constituencies including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, community, media, etc.; •Works with Sports Information to develop informational/promotional materials; •Actively promotes Dartmouth and the lightweight rowing program through the media, speaking engagements, camps, clinics, and community involvement; •Develops alumni interest in and support for lightweight rowing program through “Friends” group, alumni events, regular communication and other means; •Effectively encourages financial donations to the program;

Miscellaneous – 5% •In coordination with the Senior Associate Athletic Director and other crew coaches, assumes responsibility for one or more administrative functions that serves the entire rowing program (lightweight, heavyweight, and women’s rowing programs) to include Friends of Dartmouth Rowing liaison, endowment manager, joint Friend’s account manager, rigger supervisor, boathouse coordinator, rowing equipment manager, communications director, etc.); •Maintains valid driver’s license and certification to drive shell trailer, drive shell trailer to competition sites as necessary;

• Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six years’ experience as a coach or athlete in competitive rowing.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical and strategic aspects of rowing.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
• Ability to teach, lead, motivate and guide student-athletes. Ability to recruit effectively with no athletic grants-in-aid and highly selective admissions standards.
• Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to gain appropriate certification to drive shell trailer.
