The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) is accepting applications for the position of Senior Associate Commissioner, Sport Administration & Championships. The WAC is an NCAA Division I conference currently located in the southern metro Denver area with the intent to relocate its Conference headquarters to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the Fall of 2022.
Member institutions include Abilene Christian University, California Baptist University, Chicago State University, Grand Canyon University, Lamar University, New Mexico State University, Sam Houston State University, Seattle University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Tarleton State University, Utah Tech University, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Utah Valley University. Southern Utah University, The University of the Incarnate Word and The University of Texas at Arlington will join the WAC in 2022-23. The WAC crowns team and individual champions in 20 sports – 10 men’s and 10 women’s.
General Responsibilities:
- Serving as a member of the senior staff, this position will oversee all aspects of the Conference relative to the management, administration, and operations for Olympic Sports.
- Provide leadership in the guidance and execution of facilitating relationships with applicable constituents within the membership to ensure appropriate support is being provided as well as the enforcement of Olympic Sport regular season and Championship policy.
- Serve as liaison to the Conference’s Sport Management Committee, composed of senior level female administrators from each member institution, and will work collaboratively with the committee chair in the development and communication of recommendations to the Athletic Directors.
- Provide internal leadership to Conference staff sport administrators to ensure consistency in the management of Championship operations and policy enforcement, while providing oversight and strategy as to the staffing of each Championship from each applicable department.
- Oversight of strategic planning in ensuring quality execution of Conference Championships while ensuring Conference operations and policy continue to be aligned with NCAA Championship policy and correlating playing rules.
- Oversight of the Assistant Director, Sport Administration & Championships position.
- Oversight of the strategic planning of regular season scheduling initiatives and formats for Olympic Sports with the goal of working towards maximizing NCAA postseason opportunities within each applicable sport.
- Oversight of the Championship bid process and development of Championship site minimums/parameters as it relates to campus and neutral sites.
- Maintain relationships with external constituents, partners, and NCAA Committee representatives in order to develop strategies that will enhance the prestige and competitive positioning of the league.
- Oversight of the contractual agreements between the Conference and Olympic Sport assignors and any applicable hiring processes as it pertains to those roles.
- Provide guidance and insight to the Commissioner in sportsmanship and/or behavioral matters as necessary.
- Collaborate with the WAC Digital Network to create engaging Olympic Sport content with the objective to enhance viewership and awareness surrounding WAC Olympic Sports.
- Assist the Commissioner and Sr. Associate Commissioner, Internal Operations in developing and planning meeting agendas and materials for regularly scheduled meetings.
- Assist with the operations of the Conference’s men’s and women’s basketball tournament.
- The position performs other duties as assigned by the Commissioner and/or Sr. Associate Commissioner, Internal Operations.
Desired Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 6-8 years of comparable experience in sport administration and/or event management.
- Strong working knowledge of, and demonstrated interest in, intercollegiate athletics. Additional experience as a student-athlete and/or coach is preferred.
- Ability to work in high-paced environment while being able to efficiently create solutions to conflict and develop a communication plan and execute to multiple constituent groups.
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting to efficiently meet established goals and deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a detailed manner.
- Willingness to work in a team environment.
Position Structure:

Salary Range:
